Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kensington Mini Battery Extender and Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G (Black)Customer Review: Great battery extender Summary: 2 Stars
I used this on a flight and it made it possible to make the whole way without running out of battery. My phone goes from 5 hours to 9 with this battery extender. Two things to know, the gray clip used to hold the phone on it's side, will get lost, almost right away. It's not designed to stay on top for very long. The other is it blocks the speaker. You need headphones when using this. You can talk ok with it connected.
EDIT: I changed my rating from 4 stars to 2 stars and wanted to give an explanation. I used this device maybe twice a week for a few months. The quality of the battery was fine, it did not deteriorate over time. The plug that goes into the iPhone however does flex and eventually lose the ability to make contact with the port on the iPhone which causes it not to charge. The reason for this is the battery is heavy and gravity pulls it down when your holding it. This is just by design, the plug on the battery extender is not strong enough to support the weight. It probably would not have bent if I had always used the battery extender on a flat surface, however I needed to use the phone and it broke over time.
Customer Review: ipod 1st gen touch user Summary: 5 Stars
just bought it today and plugged it into my computer to charge. Took just under 2hrs for full charge. Drained my touch to 20% at the first warning and plugged it in. I turned everything else off on the ipod to see how fast it would charge. It took just over an hour for a 95% charge.
I bought this charger for use while flying and it seems like its going to work great. Fast charging both from the computer to charger and charger to ipod.
I don't like the idea of not being able to listen to music while charging, but cant have everything. The charger also doesn't seem to fit completely tight to my ipod touch so i wont be keeping it in my bag while charging, it seems like it might break off. But it kept a solid connection through charging.
The charging indicator lights are a nice feature both for charging from computer and to ipod. The charger stayed nice and cool through both charging applications which was a concern.
The charger is about the same size as a Zippo lighter so very compact.
Price was reasonable paid 40.00 for mine and seems like a good investment for travelers.
Customer Review: good while it worked Summary: 3 Stars
update: have not been able to nail down the conditions, but sometimes if this is removed from thoe iphone it does into a frozen state where it will neither offer or take a charge. one of the blur status lights will stay on and it will not function. if left to drain itself, it resets and works fine....until the problem surfaces again. if i leave it attached until drained, no problems. if removed in certain cricumstances while still holding a charge, then the problem could recur.
i've had this for about 2 months and it just quit working. i have not tried the return process yet, so no review here on how amazon will handle, but past experience says it will be fine.
until this morning i used this battery at least 5 or 6 times a week and never an issue. all of the status lights worked fine, quickly charged the phone. a little bulky, but it was workable in most situations and stayed put on the phone while in a pocket or cup holder in the car.
one of the status lights is now on all the time and it will not take a charge or supply one, so apparently a bad circuit.
Customer Review: Iphone 3g emergency battery Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the kensington iphone battery extender from Amazon and the first one they sent me never worked. I charged it and tried to use it on my Iphone 3g but either the charges never took or it never recognized my iphone. I was easily able to return it to Amazon free of charge and they sent me a new one the same week also free of charge. The new one works perfectly and I was able to use it right away to charge my Iphone 3g anywhere after I charged the kensington battery charger though the usb cable with an outlet. This was exaclty what I was looking for as I use my Iphone as a GPS device on the golf course and the battery never lasts a whole round. I am very pleased with this product and the price was very reasonable also. Amazon had great customer service when the first one did not work and I was able to do the return and get the new one all online, which was a great time saver. Customer Review: For emergencies Summary: 4 Stars
I wanted a battery charger for emergencies that I could throw in my purse and forget about. This is good for that purpose except that it loses its charge fairly quickly. I have to charge it once in a while to get it to a full charge after it's just been sitting in my purse. When I've needed it, it has been very useful even without a full charge.
It sits on the phone awkwardly, but it stays in well and has never fallen out while in use.
Overall, it's pretty good. I wanted it instead of a case charger because they're all bulky and ugly. I will go ahead and get one now, as this little one is just too much of a hassle. I'd rather change cases when I need a charge.
Worth $30 for sure. I paid $50 and I think it's more fitting to be in the $30 range for the quality/speed of the charge and awkward fit. The usb cable retracts into a round center station (whatever that's called) - a feature I wish they all had. That is a nice touch.
