Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kensington DomeHub 7-port USB 2.0 Hub with FlyLightCustomer Review: Worked the way it's supposed to work. Summary: 5 Stars
I selected the 7-port Kensington DomeHub because I had previously added a 4-PORT hub to my older computer and that ran out quickly. Even though my new computer had additional hubs I felt that you could never have too many, it was easier to have most of them centrally accessible, and I didn't want to use the front ones for anything except temporarily attaching flash drives, etc. The Kensington hub gave me the added ports in a compact package. Even better was the fact that it was weighted and didn't slide around. I could place it with confidence that I wouldn't knock it off the desk by mistake.
It worked immediately without any installation problems and no need for instructions. It does just what I wanted and hides safely out of sight while staying easily reachable.
Customer Review: So Far so GOOD Summary: 5 Stars
I read every good and bad review for this before I bought it. I researched these hubs for hours. I finally made up my mind that despite the few nay sayers I was going to roll the dice and try it. I'm glad I did... This hub is still woking brilliantly. Its size and shape is very compatible with my desk at work. The weight of this product is a plus too. the extra port at the top is very convenient for quick and frequent ins and outs. I love this doggone product! Right now I have 2 Western Digital external hard drives, a Kingston memory stick, a mouse and a keyboard hooked up this Kensington hub. I don't think that it will support any more hard drives though. My laptop doen't have enough power. It's working fine out here in Iraq so far.
Customer Review: Died after less than 2 years Summary: 2 Stars
After initial enthusiasm about the design of this hub, I found that it underpowered my iPad or iPhone 4. After being connected all night, the iPad or iPhone would read "Not Charging". According to Apple, even a powered USB hub can provide much lower power than the external AC adapter provided with the devices. That certainly is the case with this hub.
Then one day, the hub suddenly died. No more green lights on the ports. Disconnecting and reconnecting AC power had no effect. Time to buy another hub, and it won't be this one again.
Another nit would be the included "fly light", which is cool except that it lacks a switch, so the only way to turn it off is to disconnect it, making it relatively useless.
Customer Review: Does exactly what I need Summary: 4 Stars
I went to Amazon.com to buy the Belkin stackable USB hub BELKIN F5U237 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub and found this one instead. I really like it. One of the biggest problems I was having with the old hub I was replacing was that it was so darn small and light that it kept falling off of my computer with the slightest movement of cables. The weighted base on this hub is a really big plus. Also, having a rounded base makes it easier to plug in USB cables because there is actual space between the connectors. Not a huge benefit, but it is nice.
It works great as a usb hub and I have not had any issues.
Customer Review: Works great for me Summary: 5 Stars
I was having problems with USB connectors coming just loose enough to make devices function erratically before I got this hub. No more problems now. I only wish it had a firewire port or two as well. I had 7 USB devices plugged into the back of my Mac G5, with the cables hanging down from the ports. Gravity tends to loosen the connectors after a while. With the Kensington hub sitting on my desk, the cables lie on the desktop, a tolerable bit of clutter, and now gravity doesn't loosen the plugs. I tried a hub of a different brand some years ago but wasn't happy with it. I've never missed with Kensington. Wouldn't part with my Kensington TurboRing "mouse" for anything. I would not have tried another brand.
