Customer Review: Excellent, Strong, Versatile Mount

The very best part of this mount is the suction cup platform disk with special bendable "wings", which can be stuck to your dash with the included 3M adhesive and alcohol wipe. This may seem like a small thing, but it is very important. Most of these disks are flat disks with double sided tape. The flat disk NEVER seems to contact well with a curved dash. But this mount's disk has five "wings" on the underside of the disk, which are flexible and can be bent to the shape of the dash, then stuck to it. Making contact between the adhesive and the dash truly separates this disk out from the pack, and is the difference between staying on, and falling off.
This is an excellent universal mount for any kind of mobile device in your car. Universal mounts (IMHO) are better than dedicated (ex: iphone only) mounts, because as you upgrade your phone every 2 years, the same mount can still be used in the car.
This mount works fine for my Nexus one, my wife's old iPhone 3GS, and her new iPhone 4. It also works with those phones naked, OR when those phones are in a gel or metal case. The bottom supports easily allow the wide iPhone plug to connect to the phone.
The side arms, as in most similar mounts, can open and close to fit many devices. I measured their range as supporting phones with widths of from 1.5" to 3.75". The button to release and widen the side arms (spring loaded) is on the back. I prefer a side button, but I don't use it frequently.
The side arms are angled in slightly, so that the phone is wedged up against the back, as well as squeezed in from the sides. I prefer to let the sides be a little loose, and just slip the phone in from the top. This way, you don't have to adjust the side arms.
The strongest aspect of this particular product has to be the arm, suction cup, and dash disk portion of the mount. It is far better than many others I have tried and seen. It is very strong and highly adjustable. All joints (ball, pivot) can be tightened by the user, so once set, don't move. The hinge is ratcheting to hold very securely, and the ball mount allows 360 degrees of rotation, as well as swivel. The hinge pin can be removed and the 90 degree arm can be placed in upside-down, allowing for more choices of mounting position. The window suction cup holds strong.
