Customer Review: An Excellent Car Mount!

I have had my iPhone 3GS for half a year and recently purchased a GPS app for it (The MotionX GPS Drive is the best). I wanted to mount the iPhone in my car so I could see the map and also so that the phone would be in a great position to receive the GPS signals. I researched several mounts and noticed that the ones which had good ratings didn't support iPhones which are in a protective case. This particular mount did support cases and had some great reviews. I purchased the mount and it arrived in a couple of days. I had to return the first one because one of the little arms at the bottom of the holder had broken off during transit or during the packaging. Amazon sent a replacement and I now have the car mount in my car. I love it also because I can easily switch between functions on the iPhone (when safe to do so).
Bottom Line: If you have a phone (iPhone or others) I would strongly suggest getting this case. It is VERY easy to mount or remove it from the window. The phone is held firmly in place yet it is easy to put it into the holder and remove it. The mount holds securely to the window. I have not had any issues with rattling or the suction failing. Overall an excellent product!

I used this car cradle for my iPhone. The things I liked about it were the fact that it has a large, strong suction cup, a long flexible gooseneck, and accomodates the iPhone with a charging cable plugged in. The part that the phone rests on swivels for quickly changing from landscape to portrait mode. Accomodates just about any phone or phone-like device, including iPods and other mp3 players.
The problem is that the movable parts (the arms that grip the sides of the device and holds it in place) are very flimsy. After a week, the button on the back to release the device started acting flaky. Eventually the mechanism inside broke completely, and the sides wouldn't stay in to grip the phone at all. I tried taking it apart, hoping that it might be something I could put back together. What I found was that some of the gears and linkages inside were made of very thin plastic and had broken clean through, making it impossible to repair.
I would not recommend this car mount at all... after seeing what the insides look like, I know they are poorly made and will all fail the same way, it's only a matter of time.

The unit meets my needs perfectly. It attaches via the windshield using a very strong suction cup (which is solid and well made) and has a long gooseneck that extends just past my dash. I have mine mounted in the bottom center of my windshield, and the gooseneck contacts my dashboard right as it goes past the end. There is an extra inch or so extending beyond. With the end of the gooseneck contacting my dashboard, there is NO vibration issue. The mechanism for grasping my iPhone is near ideal. Very sturdy, very easy to set, and very easy to release. I have access to all my buttons and ports and switches. Once the iPhone is attached, I plug in my charger, and I'm ready to go. I am using MotionX GPS Drive (highly recommended iPhone app!) and am able to take calls on the speakerphone very safely and easily.
All told, I have trouble visualizing a better solution that doesn't involve attaching something permanently to my dash, which I don't want to do. I recommend this item without qualification.

I bought this mount after seeing fairly good comments from other buyers. I'm glad that I did! The mount is solidly constructed, and the arm feels quite stable as you bend into place. I've also found the arm to be the perfect length for use in my '95 Accord. The suction cup works very well; I've had no issues with the mount showing any signs of falling off of my windshield. Other reviewers have mentioned that the mount vibrates when traveling at high speeds. I have experienced some of this, but not enough to hinder the operation of my iPhone or GPS. The vibration experienced with this product is less of an issue than on other similar products I have used. This mount is about as good as windshield mounts get as far as in-motion movement is concerned. It's a breeze to get your device in and out, and once in, it's held firmly in place. I also appreciated the included auxiliary audio cable (however flimsy it may be). Overall, this is a fantastic mount. I'm very satisfied!Customer Review: Worked well for a few months

I bought this mount seven months ago and was quite impressed until it broke this week.
Pros:
> The suction is exactly what you're looking for - it won't fall off even in the coldest weather. I live in the Midwest and the device remained on the windshield through the winter.
> The arm is high quality - I didn't have trouble with shaking and bouncing like some other reviewers.
> The holder itself is quite accommodating to the size of your phone regardless of whether you use a case.
Cons:
> The release button is on the back and is a bit clumsy. It is possible to release your phone/iPod with one hand but it's not the best design.
> The holder broke this week; as a result the side-arms that squeezed my phone no longer stay tight, as though I'm holding in the release button.
I'm going to contact Kensington for a replacement as they apparently have a 2-year warranty.
