The lock works exactly as described, hence the 5 stars. Not a lot of competition for high quality notebook locks, so I feel like I was paying more than I wanted to due to lack of options. I selected the DS version because I wanted the flat keys, however, the keys are still a little large to keep on your regular keychain. The lock appears to accommodate various mounting slot depths, but this seems to add a little slack (filled in by an integrated soft rubber mount). I wonder if this slack might allow for additional stress on the security slot for thinner skinned notebooks. I use mine to secure 20" LCD panels to their desks. In spite of the minor issues mentioned, I'd purchase again.Customer Review: Works Well With MacBooks

I bought this lock to replace a stolen lock (in a bag, not on a computer!). So far, it works very well.
Unlike some others who reviewed this lock, it worked well for me on both a unibody MacBook Pro and a new version white MacBook. I have no idea why these people are having such big problems.
As long as you realize that this lock is there to prevent spur-of-the-moment snatches, not determined criminals, you'll be happy. The one I bought here at Amazon was my second so each computer has its own.
I should note that the keys don't work as smoothly as my stolen (and very old) lock but that has not been a big deal.

I was a little anxious at first ordering the Kessington 64343 MicroSaver DS Notebook Computer Lock with Keys for my HP Pavillion dv7 computer. This was because of several review I'd read about how difficult it is to install the lock and how it might scratch my computer. When I ordered this lock I paid for the five-day shipping and it arrived in two days. The lock looks great. It looks and feels heavy-duty, and about as attractive as a computer lock can. It slipped easily into the computer's lock hole. The key turned easily and it locked without a problem. The rubber ring looks like it will prevent any scratching. The Kensington 64343 MicroSaver works well, with one complaint: the lock itself is difficult to use. On the back of the lock is a T-shaped tab which fits into the slot on your laptop computer. The tab has a little pin on either side, which need to line up with the tab in order for the tab to go into the slot. It's possible for the tab and the pins to go out of alignment with each other. When that happens, you'll spend a long time fiddling with the lock, trying to get the tab and the pins back to the way they're supposed to be. This is probably due to cheap construction of the lock mechanism - it ultimately gets the job done, but can be a pain to use.Customer Review: Poor craftsmanship

I've had this product for 5 years of light usage, but by the 3rd year I started having problems.
Inserting the key into the lock and properly turning it does not always turn the lock to "lock" into my computer. Similarly, turning the key does not always "unlock" the lock, leaving me unable to remove the lock from my computer.
I have to fiddle with the lock for literally 5-10 mins, jiggling the key and twisting and turning the thing to try to get the key to perform its function.
I do not recommend this lock. This issue has degraded to such a point that I am shopping for a new lock now.
