Customer Review: APPLE SHOULD THINK ABOUT CREATING A SAFETY DEVICE THAT DON'T DESTROYS THEIR LAPTOPS
Summary: 2 Stars

When I was looking for a device that could protect or deter a looter from taking my laptop, I never imagine that this particular piece would end up damaging my computer. First of all it is a pain in the neck to get that thing to work easily and then when you really get to make it work it ends up damaging the side of your computer, making a big scratch and if someone wants to take your laptop and finds this device attached to it, it only takes for that person to pull it really violently to probably destroy your valuable computer, I now it's hard to think about leaving your computer someplace without any antitheft device, but think twice about how to protect your laptop before buying one of these products.
I have a Powerbook G4, and that was my experience I don't know how it works on other brands or models.

Customer Review: Works as advertised
Summary: 4 Stars

These types of locks are a deterrent and not a guarantee that your laptop won't get stolen. That being said... I like this model. It incorporates a flat key vs. the cylinder lock. I didn't want a combination lock. I have enough numbers to remember without adding to them. It has a rubber cushion ring that prevents the lock itself from marring your laptop case. The cable is long enough and plastic coated which is good.

The only thing I don't like about it is that everthing spins. The lock outer shell spins. The cable can rotate around. I can understand the reason (it allows the cable to rotate instead of locking it tightly in one position). However, it sometimes takes a little effort to align the locking mechanism to insert it into the laptop slot. I think I can live with that.

Customer Review: Works for flat-screen TVs too
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this to put on my new Samsung TV that replaced my 52' flat-screen Samsung LCD that was stolen. I found out that there is a Kensington slot in the back of many of the Samsung models. If you are going to buy an expensive TV, I recommend you check the owner's manual for that TV online thru the manufacturers website to see if it has a Kensington slot before you buy this lock. If not there are also other Kensington lock sets where you can glue a disc (the set comes with 3 discs) on the back of the TV and the TV stand and another electronic (say a Playstation 3) and that will secure it as well. The glue that comes with the kit is awesome. Amazon sells those as well. It would take a determined crook quite a bit of time to cut these wires.

Customer Review: Strong Cable, but Flimsly Head
Summary: 3 Stars

I just got my Kensington Microsaver DS. I'm very impressed with the cable quality. Good plastic sheathe to protect your furniture and notebook from the metal cord scrapping against it. But I was clearly unimpressed with the build quality of the lock itself. It's flimsy. Keyhole can rotate, but it can wiggle when you rotate it. The rubber that sits between your laptop and the lock is not thick enough, allowing the cord to dangle from the patented kensington lock hole. They key is also built of poor quality. There are tiny dents on my key! And the plastic that holds the key is also cheap quality. Seems like of the $40 dollars i spent, $2 dollars went to the key and lock, and the $38 went to the cable... Just my two cents...

Customer Review: Easy to Use and Accomplishes It's Task
Summary: 5 Stars

The purpose of a computer lock is to discourage a sticky-fingered wanderer from making off with your portable computer (and the almost-complete term paper within it). This device works nicely. It would require a noisy commotion to separate the computer from the heavy wooden desk when they are bound together with this lock. I initially wondered why it was designed so the key could only be removed when the lock was locked. This seemed to be a nuisance (need to dig the key out to put the lock on the computer) but then I recalled the mischief potential of an unlocked padlock abandoned in a school locker room. I now think requiring the key for locking is a good idea that should be applied to more locks of the sorts used in schools.
