Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kensington 33374 Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer

Customer Review: Powerpoint only!
Summary: 3 Stars

I love the Kensington presenters. The best aspect of them is the simplicity. If I am running a conference, I can just hand it to speakers (academics mainly) and they can use it right away. So having a new version taking AA batteries was very exciting. It's not that the old disk batteries were that bad: I just never had a small screwdriver to get to them!

This new version has some improvements: the USB thingy now stays in its holder better, so it doesn't fall out in my backpack. The overall feel of the presenter is good. But I need to find a small screwdriver, put in a new disk battery, go back to my old presenter and give this one to someone else. As others have noted, pushing the laser has the side effect of sending an F5 to the system. No problem if in powerpoint, but for any other program, this leads to all sorts of weird behavior. For instance, when I switch from powerpoint to illustrate something in Excel and press the laser, up pops a "Go to" window. Confusing and annoying to all concerned.

The advantage of being able to start a powerpoint presentation (which is what F5 does in powerpoint) is vastly outweighed by the inability to use the laser pointer with any other software.

Customer Review: Better than before
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used both this version and the previous version of this device and have found a few significant changes.

First, the laser button also puts Powerpoint into presentation mode, a feature absent on the previous model. However, rather than presenting the current screen in presentation mode, it goes to the first page of the presentation. I could see this being a disadvantage if you want to use your laser pointer while being in the normal view mode. However, others had previous complained that there was not a way of automatically going back into presentation mode if you accidentally exit out of presentation when you're on the last slide -- something that this feature really doesn't fix.

The USB transmitter that plugs into the computer is nearly half the size in the new version, which is nice, given the bulky size of the previous version.

The device now runs on AAA batteries instead of a smaller, disc-type battery. This is nice, since you had to go to a store to pick up replacement batteries for the old version.

The new device is also slightly heavier, but not significantly so.

Otherwise, the device seems the same (color, texture are slightly different)

Customer Review: Best One Yet
Summary: 5 Stars

Have bought several different clickers in the past, and them all suffering from one flaw or another, this one is an improvement on a few points:

Takes standard AAA batteries, easy to change. (some take little watch batteries...good luck with that in the field!)

Decently strong laser pointer. (some are very weak)

Simple, tactile button layout. Small and feels good in the hand. (not a lot of extras, most trainers just want the basics)

Transmitter fits inside the handle, which turns the device off. Therefore no accidental use while traveling and so batteries last a long time. (and less chance of a lost transmitter...I have several orphans!)

Not very expensive. (used to pay $100 for clickers!)

Two will work in tandem on the same computer, no sync issues. (used to be we had to worry about this if two people were presenting together)

Decent range, no interference experienced...yet.

And! [drum roll] Eligible for Amazon Prime! Mmmm, 2-day shipping bliss...

We have six of them already, will be adding a few more soon. Love 'em.

Customer Review: Makes presentations look professional!
Summary: 4 Stars

I had used one of these presenters before because our Toastmasters District Leadership has one. I purchased the Kensington 33374 with Laser pointer for several reasons. First, the dongle stores inside the unit and turns it off to save the battery. Second it is simple to use, no software drivers, etc. You just plug it into a USB port and go. The buttons are simple, forward, backward, B Key and laser pointer/F5.
I've used it several times at work now and it allows me to walk around the room while advancing the slides. It makes me look like a professional speaker.
The only negative thing I can say about this unit is that they combined the F5 key, which starts a PowerPoint presentation with the laser pointer key. This means that everytime you use the laser pointer, you are also hitting F5. This works ok in PowerPoint, but in other software, it does whatever F5 does in that software. In Word or Excel, for example, it brings up the Go To box. This makes the laser pointer pretty much usesless in anything other than PowerPoint.
Overall, however, this is a super product.

Customer Review: awesome!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was about to purchase the Kensington 33062 (released in 2003) since the customer reviews were well above average and I knew the brand was pretty reliable. I called Circuit City for a price check, and if they had any special deals. Fortuntately the Representative informed me they were out of stock (discontinued item) but kensington's newest remote was available.

I purchased this for my boss who says he loves it. It fits perfectly in his hand and was so easy to use (truly plug-n-play!). The USB receiver even stores inside the remote. The buttons are perfect too; no need to worry about pressing too lightly or pressing too hard.

We noticed that the laser *doesn't* work when the USB receiver is in its little compartment (don't lose the USB!). Also, the light seems a little weak when used on a laptop monitor.

I would like to hear comparisons between this one and the 33062 model, just to see how much has improved or if they are both pretty much the same.
