Customer Review: First disappointed ... now delighted

I purchased my KA1103 through Amazon.com. As usual, the Amazon service was superb. But I'm very disappointed with the radio. All the glowing reviews convinced me over the few who complained about reception, even AM. Well, my AM reception is awful (I'm 60mi north of Houston, TX; USA). I can only pick up SW when I'm well away from my house and then only a handful of stations. And in the house or away in the wilderness, the AM reception is the same ... awful. Of course I tried the long AM antenna supplied. No Joy. Cute little radio but I wish I hadn't purchased it.
Now two weeks later I need to update this review: I find I'm in a difficult reception area and this little radio does better than my Sangean CCRadio. I am also gaining experience searching for short wave transmissions using the included external antenna in a better location. I'm still a little surprised there aren't more stations but I'm now convinced it's not the fault of this little radio.
Description of Kaito KA1103 Worldband Radio
This high quality world receiver receives all the stations in shortwave spectrums, plus side bands, SSB. The special designed circuit is a high sensitivity one, but no noise.This unique digital radio starts FM from 76.0MHZ, most of Campus radio station can be tuned in within this range. The KA1103 can decode SSB Single Side Band broadcasts though it's SSB circuitry, 1 kHz tuning steps and clarifier.
