Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Jabra SP5050 Bt SpeakerphoneCustomer Review: horrible waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
I have an LG VX8600 cell phone and spend a good deal of time on the road. Was looking for a hands free way to talk when I spotted this item. I have had good experience with Jabra bluetooth headsets, saw the reviews, and asked "Why not?" There are two major problems with the 5050 and the first is a fatal flaw. People can not hear me very well and I can not hear them very well. Tried the unit in my car (Toyota 4Runner) and my wife's (Toyota Prius). If the car is standing still, the volume is fine. On I95 and other busy roads, forget it. I have gone back to using my Jabra headset and regard the 5050 as "fatally flawed." The other irritating problem is the charging system. You have to charge the unit in your car for 2 hours to start; or you can spend $15 bucks additionally for an AC/DC adapter. Actually, the bluetooth built into my Garmin 660 GPS is so much better (works very well). On a positive note, the 5050 paired just fine with my phone. Still, if I can't hear them and they can't hear me who needs the thing. Now if you are looking for something you can use as a speaker phone while you are sitting in your home office, go ahead and by the 5050, otherwise you money is better spent elsewhere.
Customer Review: Unimpressive BT Speaker phone Summary: 2 Stars
Purchased the Jabra SP5050 bluetooth speaker phone for my car a few weeks ago and expected it to work as well as my On Star phone in my GMC truck. I chose this one based on the positive reviews. The unit installed okay and interfaced with my phone fine. However they don't tell you that you have to hold the button for a couple of seconds for it to turn on and find your phone and when it is bright out it is difficult to see the indicator lights. It's a little confusing. A majority of the time you can hear the caller okay but the sound quality is not that pleasant. Voice dialing is almost impossible unless the car is not running. I usually have to dial from the cell phone. I have to be sure the fan speed is on low otherwise the caller cannot understand me. Part of the faceplate started to fall off yesterday on the way home so I will have to glue it back on.
On the positive side I can talk to someone most of the time hands free and the battery life is very good. However it is not pleasant enough for a long enjoyable conversation. So in summary there is still much room for improvement.
Customer Review: Best BT SpeakerPhone of the three I've bought Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned two previous Motorola bluetooth speakerphones for my automobile and both of them sucked. They sounded bad AND they weren't nearly LOUD enough to use while your are driving at highway speeds and running the heating/cooling system.
I was in Costco in December 2007 and I saw a Jabra SP505 on sale for $64.00. I had never seen this model before so I whipped out my iPhone, did some quick research and bought the unit. I got back to my car, plugged in the provided charger and quickly started making calls to multiple friends and family. Everyone I spoke with said the sound quality was excellent on their end. From my end, the SP5050 is far and away, hands down the BEST bluetooth speakerphone I've ever used. It's LOUD and it sounds great.
Aesthetically, the SP5050 is sleek and pleasing to look at and hold in the hand. Operationally, the unit is simple and has worked flawlessly with my iPhone and MacBook Pro.
If you've wanted a BT speakerphone before but held off, your time is now...buy the SP5050 and be happy!
Customer Review: Review after over 1 year of usage Summary: 2 Stars
I got this to comply with CA law. It worked ok, but I am on the market for something better.
There are 2 main problems
1) In some cases where the road is noisy, I cannot hear the speakerphone even at full volumes. I drive a relatively quite 3-series BMW.
2) The single large button is nice to find, but the tactile feedback on this particular button is too subtle. Depending upon how you press the button, it can give it totally different (and unwanted) commands. It will react different if I press it for a short time, long time, or double push it. I have a hard time knowing what I just did because I don't know if it felt it click or not, and I am quite sensitive in my fingers. I've lost many calls by accidentally shutting it down by depressing the button too long, or trying to power it up when I receive a call when I have left it off.
I'd prefer a more conventional separate answer and hangup buttons to make it simple and unambiguous, much like a cell phone. Also, it needs a louder speaker.
Customer Review: does the job Summary: 4 Stars
I needed to get some kind of bluetooth device because I live in CA. I have a real problem with ear pieces so I purchased the Jabra speakerphone. While this unit is easy to use and does what it's supposed to do, I'm giving it 4 stars because of a few querks: It doesn't always pair with my phone when I turn the unit on and I sometimes need to turn it off and back on. I'm only able to successfully use the voice calling feature about 70% of the time but I don't know if that's a problem with the speakerphone or with the phone itself. It's somewhat difficult to see the LED readout and I sometimes leave the unit on. However, it has a handy feature that shuts itself off if it is not paired for 15 minutes. It doesn't come with an AC charger. You can either charge the unit with the car-supplied charger or buy a separate adapter. Finally, the volume is a bit on the low side. These are all rather minor issues. For the most part I like the speakerphone and I recommend it for anyone who doesn't want an ear piece.
