Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Jabra SP5050 Bt SpeakerphoneCustomer Review: Much better than expected Summary: 5 Stars
Having looked for a bluetooth speaker phone to use with my iPhone, I did research everything I could find. The reviews of the Jabra SP5050 were excellent on the whole, but I was naturally suspicious as things are often not as good as advertsied. I wanted to use the speaker phone in a convertible Mustang, and thought that the noise with the roof up (the Mustang isn't exactly a quiet car!) may make the unit less than useful. Quite the contrary. I can not only use the Jabra with the roof up, but also with the roof down - and at speeds up to about 45-50mph. Very impressive.
Connection to the iPhone is simple and so far hasn't dropped a call.
The thing seems to hold charge for ever - I haven't had to recharge it in two weeks.
It's neat, and well designed. The only downside is that the on/off and connected lights are weak, particularly with the roof down, but then they'd need to be searchlights to to be seen in those conditions.
I'm so impressed, I just ordered another from (CCMACESSORIES - very fast turnaround - thank you) for my wife to use in her Honda van.
I'd certainly recommend this and it's much better than a thing stuck in your ear making you look like something from the Borg in Star Trek - that's unless you want to look like a Nerd!
Customer Review: Does what I need, but a little tricky to learn Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using the Jabra for about 3 months, in anticipation of the California hands-free law. While I like the slim, sleek design, I would prefer a couple of big buttons instead of the single one. It took me a while to learn the difference between the "press" and the "tap", so I was transferring calls to the handset when I meant to hang up. And I never did get the right pressure for answering. I rigged my phone to have the Jabra answer automatically after two rings -- MUCH better and much safer!
The volume is just loud enough with my Samsung phone jacked up to high - I just have to remember to lower the phone volume when I do hand-hold it, or everyone around me hears my caller's voice.
I agree that the battery life is amazing. (I got mine at Costco, and the AC adapter was included.) I like the auto-off feature, as I usually forget to turn it off when I leave the car. I prefer using the visor speakerphone over a headset -- no geek factor, and I have the use of both ears to hear the stereo or conversation in my car, which I don't have when a headset blocks one ear.
The indicator lights could be brighter; in the daytime, they are too small and too dim to be useful. For this level of function, the price is right, though.
Customer Review: Easy operation but not loud enough! Summary: 4 Stars
I have two of these - one in my wife's Passat and the other in my Tundra Limited truck. Great operation with my wife's and my iPhones as well as my Moto Razr phone. Pairing is a piece of cake and the feature of the phone re-pairing after being turned on works flawlessly. The battery saving feature where it shuts off automatically also works great.
This product would be 5 stars in my book if the volume was louder. Note that volume *level* is controlled by either the phone or the unit, but the volume *output* is limited by the unit' amp and speaker. For all but the absolute quietest situations, the volume is simply not loud enough for reliable use in a car. Even sitting on my desk as a speakerphone, the volume is insufficient if there is any level of background noise.
Noise canceling and sound quality (from my callers' perspective) is very good, but unfortunately, both of these units were a waste of my money because they are really only barely usable in a car setting. Both my wife and I have switched to headsets for use in the car - much less convenient, but much better audio quality.
For some reason I cannot change the # of stars I originally assigned, but it should be a two-star product, not 4 stars...
Customer Review: Volume won't stay up Summary: 2 Stars
This is a nice slick looking device and the button design is nice. But as many others stated the volume issue is what killed it.
The pairing is a snap. I brought this from a store and set it up when I get back in my car in less than a minute. As soon as I got it paired up a call came in. The initial volume was too low so I press the + button to increase the speaker volume and it works great. I can hear the caller clearly and the other party has no problem hearing me. However when I start driving down the highway another call came in and the volume level went back to the initial level, so I had to press the + button to increase it before I can hear the caller clearly. At this point I was thinking it might be an operator error. So I call up a friend and sure enough the volume went back to the low level again!
I got home and take a look at the manual on the CD to see if there is some trick to set the volume permanently but there is none!
It is a slick piece of hardware but it is also a road hazard. Everytime when a call comes in you'll have to adjust the volume! Which is a big distraction!
I already ordered the Blueant Supertooth Light from Amazon. Once the order came in I'm returning this.
Customer Review: I would actually give it a 3.5. Summary: 3 Stars
I read all of the reviews before purchasing this product, so I knew what I was getting. The unit is very easy to set-up and use. After charging up the batteries, you just stick it onto your visor and turn it on. On a side note, it would be good if Jabra offered a wall outlet charger along with the car charger.
My two biggest complaints is that at highway speeds, it is very difficult to hear the person you are talking to, even though the other party hears you just fine. I always have to make sure that the radio is completely off and the air conditioner is on its lowest setting. I heard through the grapevine that Jabra may be offering an updated version with a better speaker toward the end of this summer. Hey Jabra, if you're reading this, maybe you can offer discounts to your customers that have the current version to upgrade to the newer one.
Also, the unit allows you to reduce the itensity of the indicator lights for night driving. No need to as you can barely see the lights at night and you can't see them at all during day time driving.
Besides its shortcomngs, I like this unit because it is small and easy to use. If a better unit is coming in the future, I would definitely wait for that one.
