Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds J2 Premium Hi-Fi Noise-Isolating Earbuds -Onyx BlackCustomer Review: It's okay... maybe my expectation was a bit high... Summary: 3 Stars
First of all, shipping was great, I received the product pretty much the 2nd day it was shipped, did took a few days for to be processed though. I purchased 2 after reading the reviews and decided to give JBuds a try and wanted to give my friend one, as well as receive free shipping. I work on Ambulance so my hearing might have been a little be damaged through ears of well, listening to sirens wailing all day; hence I am no where close to being an audiophile since I really can't hear all spectrum of sound anymore.
Most musics I listen to are Asian/Anime/Game OST type, my last pair of ear-buds were given to me by my brother that came free with his Dell XP laptop which has Creative logo on so I assume it was from creative. Despite being a free-for-you to try ear-buds the clarity and bass were a lot better, stronger than these J2s. I did followed the direction on the website and let the ear buds play for a duration of 30+ hours before I compared them to my existing ear buds. Maybe I was expecting a little bit too much from these ear buds but the noise reduction ability, sound clarity, bass and even comfort were significantly lower than the freebie creative set I have.
It is a significant improvement over the Apple ear-phones though, and the J2 has now replaced my Apple ear-phones as my 'work' set that I use for work, for listening to Audio Books/Lectures/Pod-cast, which these ear-buds does the job very well. The lack of bass is an advantage to hear words clearly and not muffled.
For its price J2 it is very good value but I think I will stick with my Creative's free ear-buds for Asian music and Game OSTs which sounded better with deeper bass and cleaner highs. I might give J3 a try though, if I end up loosing or breaking these J2 ear buds. J2 does seem more solid build than same price range ear buds I have come across.
Customer Review: Good earbuds for the money Summary: 4 Stars
Recently purchased and have been actively using for about 3 weeks.
I find reseaching and purchasing items such as earbuds and headphones to be about the most frustrating and risky thing possible since these are items that you can not actively compare against one another at any store. Since 'great' sound is such a personal thing, it's about impossible to have a relatively good chance of getting a set based only on word of mouth or these reviews. With that written, let me just state the following:
Strengths:
- Construction seems to be quite good. I purchased these to replace a set that I destroyed while working out. So far these have withstood a couple accidental tugs without issue
- The rubber ear cushions are comfortable in the ear. Let me just add that you should use the largest of the three pairs so as to create the best 'seal' in the ear canal and reduce outside noise
- The cable length is much longer than the typical that seems to be part of your included set with MP3 players - NICE
- The cabling used is substantial. You feel that it will hold up well over time
- For the money, this set is a pretty decent deal. If the 'weakness' could be attended to, I would not hesitate to buy these again and probably a few times for varied use.
Weaknesses:
- As mentioned, sound is subjective, but this set to me seems to favor the lows and highs while the vocal region seems to be somewhat tin can sounding. The lows and highs make the mids sound muffled to some extent. Mind you after reading pretty much every post I did do the recomended burn-in for over 72 hours of continuous 'burn-in' sounds found on the web. Didn't really notice a difference.
Recommendation:
- Develop a model with a flatter response across the spectrum
Hope that this helps.
Customer Review: seriously how hard do i have to try? Summary: 5 Stars
i would assume jlabs folks have great customer service judging how you all respond back to everybody review who have given you one star. But, i was wrong. i bought these earphone i thought it would be great after all the great reviews it got here. it was all muddy and lack of bass even after burn in time of several months. so i assumed i have a defective item. (im still okay at this point i still would give you guys 4 stars) here is where you stars started to drop. so i followed jlabs advice from other review. and sent them an email saying my earphones might be defective because it's muddy and has a lack of bass. 1 week later still no response. so i thought they never got my email you know just a fluke. ( i was still okay at this point) So i sent another email saying the same thing. IF YOU ARE READING THIS JLAB MY EMAIL IS [...] maybe you should search for it. Now another week as past still no responds from jlab. so i thought what can i do to get their attention. AH they respond to everyone here pretty quick if people give them a one star. DONT GIVE ME THIS COPY AND PASTE STUFF. im sorry yati yati yah. please contact us at jlab yati yati yah. until this is fixed i will leave it at one star and will not update this message.
EDIT******9/13/09
After about a month and a half later. jlabs finally responded to my emails. i believe from what they said they just hired someone new the warranty department and he or she did not do his or her job. so 1 week later after the contact they kindly asked me to give them my address and the model i had. jlabs did not require me to send my old ear-buds. they just sent one out asap and included a ear bud case for free (without telling me). so in the end jlabs has certainly surpassed my expectation. and it is more then i can ask for. i have not test out the earphones yet. i will update that later.
Customer Review: Great earbuds for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I just switched to these earbuds after my old pair of Skullcandy Smokin' Buds died on me after 3 years of hard use. After using the Jbuds for a week, I'm pleased with my purchase.
The soft plastic buds come in 3 sizes, with the medium size pre-installed but easy to switch out if necessary. Please note these are described as "noise-isolating", not "noise-suppressing" or "noise-cancellation" - in other words, these buds don't have the electronic noise-canceling function you'll get from some bigger earphones, but if you use the right size, they fit snugly in your ear and will block out a good amount of outside noise. I actually prefer this because I like to still hear some outside noise in most situations.
The earbuds look good - I have the onyx black ones, but it's nice that there's such a range of other colors to choose from. The cable looks sturdy enough and is easy to untangle. There's no volume control or mute button though, so you'll need to dig out your mp3 player or whatever you use to change volume or mute (which is the only thing I really miss from the Smokin' Buds, but to be fair, this company has a higher priced model that does have an external volume control).
The sound quality is good. I wouldn't call it excellent, but if you were really looking for high quality audiophile-level sound, you probably wouldn't be using earbuds anyway. The bass could be a bit stronger, but the higher and middle frequencies come through solidly. In general, I'd say these earbuds are a big step up from the Apple buds you get with an iPod, and comparable to other buds I've used.
Finally, you can't beat the price. At $14.99, these are a steal, especially with a one year warranty included. If you're looking for an upgrade from Apple earbuds, I'd definitely recommend taking a look at these.
Customer Review: The Jury is still out! Summary: 3 Stars
I have a very old pair of Sony MDR Earbuds that I paid about $50 or $60 for, many, many years ago. I bought them for a very pricey Walkman. I would still use them, but they have thin wires that tangle easily...also they are no longer very comfortable and lastly the wind up case that they came in, which I loved, now jams up.
The sound from the MDRs was simply superb. Because of all of the many years of technology that have since passed and because of all of the wonderful reviews that they have received, I was expecting the same rich full sound from these as well.
I now have 2 pairs of j2's because of a 2 for one promotion. I would not say that they are awful, but they just lack the depth that my Sony's have.
Maybe it is the "so called" "break in period". I have probably not played them long enough, to meet the full "break in period", but it seems to me that I have.
At a higher volume, they do sound somewhat richer, but still lack the quality of my really old Sony MDRs.
I don't need super deep base, but it is the overall richness that seems to be lacking.
I am playing them on an iPod shuffle. I am awaiting a Microsoft Zune and perhaps they will sound fuller on the Zune than they do on the iPod.
I will update this review in a few weeks when I feel that I have given them a much longer time to "break in" and to see how they are on the Zune, which is supposed to have a better sound than the iPod.
Or maybe I just need a much more expensive pair of earbuds, like the Sennheiser CX 500-T, to reach the level of sound that I am craving?
A folow up: I have been using them on my Zune and they sound far better than on the iPod. So, my conclusion is that it is not the jbuds, but the iPod versus the Zune. I adore my Zune, I might add.
