Customer Review: Excellent earbuds, but "noise isolating" is a bit of a gimmick
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
First, let me start out by saying I spent the last 24 hours listing to most of my iTunes music library, a full-length movie, and several hours of a PC video game using these new JBuds J2 earbuds. Overall, I'm very happy with the sound quality, durable build, and design.

I've used all kinds of earbuds at home and at work ... from cheap "freebie" earbuds that came with my laptop to Sony MDR-EX81LP earbuds, to V-Moda Vibe earbuds. These JBuds J2 earbuds come closest to rivaling the V-Moda Vibe earbuds and deserve the "premium" label.

In terms of audio quality (really the most important part) I have to say that these earbuds provide strong highs and a surprising amount of satisfying lows (for earbuds) but that the mid-range is strangely weak coming from a flat signal source. If your audio source has equalizer controls you can improve the mid-range to the level that you expect from a set of premium earbuds. For example, using the "Dance" preset in the iTunes equalizer control panel will dramatically improve the mid-range from these earbuds.

The three different size earpieces help you ensure a proper fit inside your ear ... and help you make sure that the "noise isolation" happens as it should. That's really the only thing that annoys me about these earbuds ... the "noise isolating" label. Yes, you can technically call these "noise isolating" earbuds because they put out some powerful sound and if you use the correct size earpiece for your ear you'll have trouble hearing anything other than the sound from the earbuds. However, I'm absolutely certain "noise isolating" sounds dangerously close to "noise canceling" to many consumers. I have several sets of "noise canceling" headphones and the effect is quite different than "noise isolation." Anyway, that's a minor issue and probably not even a remote concern for most people considering the purchase of these earbuds.

Bottom line, if you're looking for solid premium earbuds at a reasonable price then the J2 earbuds make a great choice. Just don't buy them if you're looking for genuine "noise canceling" headphones.

Customer Review: There good but not as good as I was hoping.

Anyone who goes to the gym and has a cat knows that your headphones have very little chance of survival. In fact, most of my earbuds only last about two months before one side of the earbuds stop working or my cat decideds to make it her own personal chew toy. So I set out on Amazon (which is my favorite online site!) to find a pair of good looking, good sounding, headphones that were durable and cheap enough to risk being ripped up by my cat and would be able to handle the abuse of working out at the gym. The good news is that they seemed fairly durable. They actually lasted three nonths until my cat made it a point to chew up both earbuds and leave it right next to my bed as a present! So I was quite happy to see that I didnt have the usual trouble with only one side of the earbuds working which would imply that they are more durable than most. The only problem I had with these earphone is how they look, its clunky feel, and the sound quality. Dont get me wrong, the headphones are not bad looking, in fact I purchased them because I felt Like they looked really cool. But I didnt like that it is actually much longer than you would assume it would be. These earbugs stick out of your ears quite a bit and made me feel like i had bolt sticking out of me like frankenstien. It wasnt too bad but Id rather them stick out only a little bit. It also has a plastic triangular piece that both the left and right earbud wired connect too which I felt made it a bit clunky to move around with at the gym. Lastly, the sound was not so bad for the price, but I rather pay $5.00 more to buy headphones that have deeper base and clearer sound. Honestly, I dont think they would be able to tell the difference but I am use to skull candy or auvio which I buy at retail price and they do sound just a little bit better.

So would I recommend this product? Yes if you dont care about the looks and sound and you want a good durable product at a cheap cost. If you hold looks, feel, and quality as a top concern you may want to skip this one out. Though it may also be worth noting that I also purchased the $9.99 headphone from jbuds which I actually ended up liking better. So definately check those out if you would like a backup or just want a cheap pair of headphones.

I've been using the original earbuds that came with my laptop for almost a year now, and although they worked fine they had their problems. For instance they had a notable hiss during digital silence. However, during play they had a good sound (actually not bad at all for "free" headphones) and were quite comfortable. So when my dog decided they were a chew toy, I was only mildly disappointed that I would have to replace them, and mostly just worried that I wouldn't be able to find good headphones.

I read a few of these reviews and my overall impression was a good one, so I figured I'd spend a few dollars and get something I figured had a good chance of keeping me satisfied with my purchase. This is indeed the case, I immediately noticed the absence of a hiss during digital silence and a crisp, clear audio response with my laptop.

I don't consider myself an audiophile, but I play cello, so I have a pretty good ear and appreciate the mid to low ranges in my music. I note this because I've read some reviews on this item complaining about the headphones not having an adequate high range. I would disconcur with this statement, I find my new headphones to have quite a full range and thoroughly enjoy listening to my entire gamut of songs that span from techno, to classical, to a Capella. I can now hear elements of the music that are nearly inaudible through meager computer speakers regardless of the volume or other headphones. This may simply be due to a personal preference of the elements I enjoy in my music, and perhaps there really is a noticeable lack of high range (which if there is I would presume would be due to a low-pass filter to rid the signal of an ambient hiss & noise).

I am also quite pleased with the noise isolation feature of the headphones which strictly relies on the comfortable but snug fit of the earbud in the ear canal. It does an excellent job of blocking out the vast majority of the ambient background noise while maximizing comfort. I work in a datacenter which a constant hum of fans from servers and AC units, so it's nice to be able to escape that while listening to music.

Overall I'm quite pleased with my new headphones, and haven't noticed any notable drawbacks.

Customer Review: They're good headphones, but don't quite hit the mark for me
Summary: 3 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
These headphones are better quality earbud-style headphones. The sound quality is better than most earbuds that I have used, although I think these sound hallow in the midrange frequencies and require me to modify my EQ to get the sound curve I prefer. They offer decent bass, but not thumping bass, and I don't believe the low-end frequency claim of 20 Hz.

These are "noise-isolating" earbuds, which shouldn't be confused with noise-cancelling headphones. These earbuds achieve their noise-isolation by cutting off outside sounds by fitting inside your ear canal like ear plugs. The package contains three different endcap sizes. Personally, I need to use the smallest size and still feel that they are a bit too tight. Once you twist these gently into your ear, however, you'll notice how much noise they actually eliminate. In the office, I can't hear the constant churn of the ventilation system. Once I turn on the music, I can barely hear anything else outside of the music. These earbuds effectively eliminate the outside world.

From a comfort perspective, keep in mind that these fit inside your ear, directly in the ear canal, like "ear plugs". When I first put them in, it takes a minute or two for me to adjust to the feeling. There is also always a slight pressure, and sometimes after extended periods I get a sensation like my ears are "popping". However, I've worn these for five to six hours at a time without any serious discomfort. They rarely pop out and I only have to adjust them two or three times during extended listening sessions.

They appear to be well-designed with quality materials that should not result in wire kinks or breaks if handled correctly. The earbuds' endcaps will require care/cleaning over time, and you need to make sure that you don't lose the endcap attachments, especially if you rely on the smallest or largest set. But if you're looking for decent quality and want to reduce outside noise as you listen to music or other audio, these are a decent investment.

Customer Review: Overall decent headphones
Summary: 3 Stars

When I ordered these I did not have much experience with headphones. After reading all the solid reviews on here, I decided to get a pair for my sister and I. When I first tried them, I compared them to my TSC HDPro7's and was a bit disappointed with the bass. I know they're two different styles of headphones and can't really be compared.

Eventually I got my hands on a pair of Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro's and they are amazing. They are nowhere near the same price range, but after I've listened to those babies, I now have a better feel for how a song should sound. After using the Triplefi's for a month, I went back to the J2 Buds for a comparison. Overall, the J2's overall sound quality is a bit muddy. Songs don't really pop out and it's hard to separate instruments in a song, and yes they were broken in with over 100 hours of use

I also wanted to test the bass on these with the song Beats 4 My Van by DJ Billy E, which has very low bass. On the HDPro7's the bass is punchy and fairly clear, but distorts are higher volumes. On the Triplefi's, the bass is crisp, very punchy, distortion-free, and I am able to hear the low bass frequencies I couldn't hear on my HDPro7's or my Logitech z-2300 dual subwoofer setup. When I tried the J2's, they begin distorting at mid volume and is not very powerful. I can also hear a faint rattling noise in the left headphone with this song. With other types music there's no real bass distortion unless played at high volumes or unless the song is very bass heavy.

A few good things I like are they are very comfortable for me, and I have a fairly small ear canal. In fact, the sleeves are so good, I purchased more to use on my Triplefi's, which they work perfect with. Customer support is also excellent.

These are good for people who aren't willing to spend money on IEM's and want a fairly balanced sound, with no overpowering lows, mids, or highs. They are good buds for kids and a step up from most stock headbuds. My sister seems to like them more than her JVC Marshmallow's and the purple color to match her iPod.

Now I just need to get my hands on some Shure E530's and Westone 3's and I'll be set!
