Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds J2 Premium Hi-Fi Noise-Isolating Earbuds (Black/Chrome Silver)Customer Review: Bigger than my last JBuds; sound good Summary: 5 Stars
The sound is different than my last JBuds (the previous model to these.) I had to fiddle with the equalizer a bit to get it sounding right. Maybe I had to overcompensate for the previous ones, or maybe these need the overcompensating... hard to tell. Either way, if you ever think that headphones are supposed to sound great out of the box without touching the EQ, you're wrong. (Now, if you mess around with the EQ and still can't get them to sound good, it's probably the headphones.)
The barrel of the headphones is about twice as long as the previous model JBuds. They kind of hit my ears and feel a bit bulky, but I have gotten used to them quite easily. If the Apple ear buds bug you, or you find that most brands are 'too big', them these are definitely not for you.
These are also about 3-4 inches shorter than the previous model, measured side by side from jack to ear bud. But the plastic molded splitter is much farther down the cord than the previous model.
They have an "L" and "R" printed on the outside of the earbud for those that care to know.
Another difference from the previous model is that the jack is not a 90-degree angle one, but comes straight out.
The bass is also a bit deeper on these. Not necessarily better, but more pronounced and deeper. There is a slight tin-can feel (due to the extra-long barrel shape) to the bass and high end, but I just used the EQ to help that.
Customer Review: Not Exactly Studio Quality Summary: 2 Stars
I am not very happy with this product. Maybe I expected too much, but if these are "premium" ear buds, I would hate to own a pair of budget ear buds.
I am experiencing two problems.
(1) Very poor frequency response. With the ear cushions in place, the unit sounds pretty much dead. Some people might say "bassy," but actually the mid and high range frequencies are just not there. Call it a muffled sound. Some of this can be corrected with a graphic equalizer to boost the mid and high range frequencies. However, with the ear cushions removed, the sound is noticeably better and almost acceptable. But then you have these hard plastic ends stuck in your ears, which does not feel very comfortable.
(2) The other thing I noticed is that many of my MP3's sound like they are being clipped (amplitude of the wave form is being cut off near the top). I thought I might have been over-driving the ear buds at first, but no matter how much I lower the volume, some passages in the source music still sounded distorted. I had never noticed this effect before using desktop speakers, mini and full size earphones, and during playback on my home stereo through tower speakers. So I rather doubt it is the source material.
This was my first pair of ear buds. I thought that I would give them a try. I was not positively impressed. Maybe I have to spend $50 to get good sound. I don't know.
Customer Review: Decent and sturdy Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these after ruining my last pair of earbuds. So far nothing has been able to beat the sound quality of my old Skull Candy ones, but the sleaves kept falling off of them until I finally lost them.
The package comes with three sizes of sleaves and so far the smallest ones fit fine and I haven't had them fall off once.
Ear buds in this price range are not exactly noise cancelling but do act as ear plugs. I quite often can't hear normal conversations going on around me when I have them in. And in a pinch they have worked as ear plugs when I've been trying to get to sleep while a lot of noise has been going on around me. Not the most comfortable things to wear to bed though.
The sound quality is okay, but I still have to turn the volume up a bit to completely cancel out most if not all of the sound around me. I ride a train to and from work so it can get rather loud at times.
The cable for these earphones are quite thick. Past earphones I've owned tended to have rather thin cables which usually led to damaged cables. With the amount of abuse I put these things through I can only guess that these cables will last a bit longer.
Over all they work well, still have to turn up the volume at times, but when it's generally quiet I can have it low and still make out the music just fine. And hopefully their sturdy looks turns out to be more than just its appearance.
Customer Review: DON'T BE FOOLED. THESE SOUND TERRIBLE. Summary: 1 Stars
I read the great reviews here but, man, I got suckered. These are the worst sounding phones I've ever used, and that goes to 1964 and a GE transistor radio with an ear plug. I bought two pairs of these. I tried out pair one and thought they had to be defective -- tinny hollow sound, raspy scratch noises, and zero bass. Really, they sounded bad enough to convince me they had bad soldering or something. I put my Apple Ipod headphones just to be sure I wasn't imagining the poor sound. The Apple phones blew these off the map without question so, of course, pair one had to be defective. Well, I opened the box for pair two, plugged them in, and they were identically bad. And the two pairs probably were not constructed on the same line because they were different colors. I doubt very much that I somehow got two identically faulty units in different colors. I can't believe people here are saying these sound good. Do yourself a favor and read the ratings of one star before you buy these. You'll read that others that have done direct swap comparisons found the Apple generic phones to sonically outperform these junkers by a country mile. That's too bad because the Jbuds are rather comfortable. Just don't use them to listen to anything. Maybe the full name should be Junkbuds. I wasted 30 bucks that could've gone toward something that would be at least usable. I'd turn these down to -11 if I could. Don't waste your time or cash.
Customer Review: Headphones for regular listeners Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these headphones a few months back from Amazon. After trying out nearly 7 headphones prior to this one I realized that going by only a few reviews was not enough. I checked out some other sites before I decided, rather uncomfortably to try another set of headphones. I am more than satisfied with these headphones.
Headphones sound good and have a thicker wire compared to most others. The earpiece fits quite snugly in my ears and feels good. I don't hear my music too loud and hence have never experienced any cracking in voice and unpleasant diaphragm vibrations. The bass and treble seems to be quite well balanced and for those who use portable devices and don't feedle around a lot with the equalizer and presets will love this. The price was another factor which I considered before buying these. I would say almost anybody can afford them. Three months is a long time to judge the headphones and I have used them for over 500 hours by now and they seem to work well. Even after the wire being pulled hundreds of times and some out of the way roughness these headphones seem to survive it all!!
The only problem which I can foresee with some of us may be; being unable to achieve a snug fit with these.
The bottom line:- I would recommend these headphones to anyone who listens to music for an hour or two everyday and mostly uses a portable device to do so.
