Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds J2 Premium Hi-Fi Noise-Isolating Earbuds (Black/Chrome Silver)Customer Review: outstanding at 30,000+ feet, but not very good for running... Summary: 5 Stars
I was very impressed with the JBuds J2 earbuds when I first tried them at home. I'm not an audiophile but I was certainly able to hear how much better these were over the Apple earbuds or even some Sony's that I've used for years.
The real test came on some recent flights from Detroit to Budapest. Again I noticed a significant difference between the JBuds and my previous earbuds. The JBuds noise isolation does not entirely drown out the drone of the jet engines but comes pretty close. For years I've had to crank up the volume to simply hear my music/shows. The Jbuds allowed me to not only hear but enjoy the sounds from my iPhone.
I had considered buying some over the ear headphones but I did not want the added bulk in my carry on luggage. While I suspect that headphones may do a better job of totally blocking airplane noise I am happy with the slight trade off of total noise isolation for less bulkiness.
I highly recommend trying these J2s. They're relatively inexpensive and work great.
UPDATE December 27
I only recently tried running on the treadmill with the J2s. The problem is that movement of the cords causes the earbuds to move ever so slightly in your ears. This in turn makes some noise as the earbud move in your ear. Instead of allowing the cord to dangle I tried holding it so that the earbuds were not disturbed. This solved the problem but is not a practical solution. I saw that JLab has posted a reply to someone who was not satisfied with the J2 for running. It would be interesting to see what type of accessory JLabs releases. Instead of trying to be all things to all people JLabs and Amazon ought to simply note that these earbuds 'are not designed specifically as active sports headphones.' The J2s are outstanding for most other purposes...in my case long flights. When I run I'll stick to my trusty Sony's that I've used for over 3 years... I still rate the J2s 5 stars for most non-sport uses.
Customer Review: Original is better Summary: 2 Stars
I have purchased in the past two different JBuds (originals) and now these JBuds J2 Premium earbuds. My first pair of JBuds was well loved and well used. They lasted two years, the quality was good, the bass wasn't too overpowering and ultimately they died from a short in one of the earbuds. While some might say that was a great set of headphones, I would point out my 17-year-old sony earbuds which still work as well as they did when I got them. The sound quality might not be as good as JBud sound quality, the sonys aren't comfortable, but sony earbuds from the mid nineties were excellent quality. I hear that sony quality has gone down since then.
I was excited to spend the extra cash to get the updated JBuds, in the hopes that they would last longer and have better sound quality. I was wrong. First, you need to know that the jack is straight, not L-shaped like the original JBuds. This means you will be bending that connection all the time on your mp3-player, ultimately resulting in a short in the connection and a shortened lifespan for the earbuds.
I compared the sound quality of the J2s with the originals (playing from the same ipod with one in each ear) and found the J2s use a little cleared treble, but no other difference. In my opinion, this is not worth the increase in price. What is worse, the J2s don't reduce as much outside noise as the originals. They use a much more flimsy plastic for the earpiece which doesn't isolate sound very well.
Lastly, the poor connection. While the J2 works fine in my ipod 5.5 Gen, the connection is weak and constantly goes in and out on my ipod touch 2nd Gen, which already has a poor headphone jack. Do not get these for your ipod touch 2nd Gen!
Customer Review: a very good choice! Summary: 5 Stars
I've only ever had the earbuds that come with the iPod and they're okay. They have pretty much very little to no bass, and the comfort of the iPod earbuds are pretty bad since my ears are a bit smaller than most people.
The J2buds come with 3 different sets of rubber ear pieces to put on the earbud itself for people with smaller or bigger ears. I'm using the smallest one right now. I really had to stick these things in my ears to get them to stay.
PROS :
' Good Bass.
' Durable.
' Stylish.
' Noise-Canceling (From what I heard, it's not as good as others, but it still does the job)
' unbeatable price.
' Many Many colors to choose from.
CONS :
* My ears hurt after a couple hours of listening.
* Cord might be a little bit shorter than some other brands.
* Flicking the cord when listening produces a "thump" now this will probably happen on most earbuds but I'm just putting it out there.
That's all the cons guys, the Pros totally outweigh the Cons!
I highly recommend buying a pair of these, the price is just unbeatable!
!! UPDATE 8/6/10 !!
Okay so I've had these for a while now and I was actually thinking of buying another pair since the price has gone down to only $15!!
Also, fitting the Jbuds into my ear is no longer a problem. When I first got these I had some trouble but now they fit comfortably. The only trouble now is that my ear start to hurt after wearing these for a couple hours. But still, overall, great earbuds! If you have the stock earbuds that came with your mp3 player or ipod, I extremely recommend these.
Customer Review: Great but..... Summary: 3 Stars
I ordered my pair of J2's after looking at tons of headphones and reading reviews. I previously had a pair of Sony MDREX36V/BLK EX Earbud Headphones and I was pleased with them, so when that pair died I intended to get another pair of them. However, in my search I came across the JDub's J2. For $13 I thought I had found a deal after I read the great reviews. When I received them I was amazed by their sound. I loved the bass these little earbubs pumped out. They also did a very good job of noise isolation. You get very crisp clear music from these. I went back through my library to listen to my favorite songs, because I could hear new melodies and rhythms in the background that I had previously missed. The silicon earbuds made a tight seal with my ears and caused no discomfort. I even went running a couple of times with them, however the tight seal with my ears caused the vibrations in the cord to be transmitted to my ears, which was a major annoyance. That's why there are sports headphones I guess. Unfortunately my pair started to lose sound in the right earbud after about 2 months. At first I though it was my laptops headphone jack. It never even crossed my mind that it could be my new pair of headphones. However, when both earbuds lost all sound and I tested my laptop with a different pair of headphones I discovered that indeed my 2 month old pair of headphones had died. There was no obvious sign of wear and tear. The cord was kink free and the areas around the jack and earbuds were free of any tears in the wires. All in all you will not find a better pair of headphones to sit and listen to music from, but care must be taken if they are to last longer than 2 months.
Customer Review: Great headphones! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had these headphones for over a year. I initially purchased two sets(one for me, one as a gift) of these after reading good reviews and have been extremely pleased. I finally lost a pair and purchased another set of J2s after reading that the J3s lack bass. The J2s are cheaper and I was pleased enough with them that I decided to go with the same ones.
I am able to listen to these at just about any volume and because they fit so snugly in my ears, no one around me can hear it. If only everyone used these headphones in public areas!
As the headphones fit snugly (they come with three sets of jelly inserts; small/medium/large), they are extremely comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time. Over time, the jelly inserts soften and become even more comfortable (they're fairly stiff when you get them).
As for the sound quality, I'm no audiofile, but they sound great to me. I think that they do sound better over time as you've used them more. I'm not sure if this is because they are "burnt in" or because they because more comfortable as the jelly inserts soften during use. For the price, I'd definitely recommend these headphones. I'm sure there's probably an $80 set of headphones that are better, but why pay that much when these sound great, are comfortable, and people around you can't hear your music?
The only negative thing about these headphones is that if you are pulling them out from a bag or something and they get caught on something else, the jelly insert can slide off. I've almost lost one of the inserts a couple of times, but luckily realized in time to find it.
