Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (White)Customer Review: Decently priced ear cleaners Summary: 3 Stars
Like many other Amazonians, I too use these ear buds for listening to my iPod. I don't use them too often, maybe two or three times a month (if that), so I didn't want to spend a lot of money.
The quality of sound is fine at low volume. However, when I turn the volume higher than %50 the sound quality is lost. I used them the other day when blow drying my dog after bathing her and they reduced the sound of the dryer, but not by leaps and bounds. I turned the volume up, but the music became unbearably distorted.
I appreciate that these ear buds come with different sized attachable buds, so the fit is great. However, (this might sound gross, but I'm trying to be honest here) they seem to be a magnet for earwax; which is disgusting.
I care about ear sanitation as much as the next person, but earwax is continuous (meaning it doesn't just appear overnight). I just clean the ear buds out with a art brush at home, but in public I just leave them in my ears even when I stop listening to music.
Obviously, if you frequently use earphones, I suggest you find a different set. If you're a casual listener like me, and don't want to spend a great deal of money, buy these, just be wary of earwax.
Customer Review: Great sound - quit after 6 months Summary: 2 Stars
I received these headphones as a gift in December 2007. These headphones have a great sound - crisp with lots of bass - and they block outside noise very well - but the wires in the plug eventually became loose, and though for a few days I was able to "jiggle" the cable to get sound, they eventually quit completely. I was disappointed when they stopped working, since I did like the sound. I'm pretty cognizant of not "pinching" the cable when I would wrap my headphones up around my iPod, so as to not put any extra stress on that point. While I can't say I was rough with the headphones, I can't say I was most gentle with them, either (used for commuting, walking, working out, etc.). They quit in June 2008.
I was going to buy a second pair of these, but I decided to try the Coby headphones - after all, six bucks is worth a try - and I have to say that the Coby headphones have the same quality of sound and noise-canceling ability. I'm not an audiophile by any standard, and my hearing is about average, so if you're trying to decide between the jBuds and the Cobys, go with the Cobys. If you need the different size silicone earbuds (I lost four out of six due to my "throw in the bag / pocket / gym bag" treatment),
Customer Review: Another one-bud failure victim Summary: 1 Stars
I played the numbers game when deciding on a pair of earbuds for listening to voice podcasts on my daily 20 minute train commute. Figured that with a 4-out-of-5-star average on 870 reviews my chances were pretty good that I'd get a great product.
Well, I've read the 1-star reviews and not all of them are by people who are sound-afficionados concerned with clarity, bass, etc. No, the majority of 1-star ratings concern a crackling and then total failure of one of the earbuds. My 1-star review falls in that category.
I'd had these earbuds exactly 3 months when the right-side earbud started to die. At first, if I wiggled the jack or held the wire a certain way, and remained perfectly still, it'd come back but only go out again. I became so focused on holding/wiggling the wire that there were times I forgot what I was trying to listen to on the podcasts.
Today was the last time I attempted the odd hold/wiggle/be still sychronization. Nothing worked. I think now it's gone for good and I'm down to one earbud, which is annoying and leaves me with mono-ear. Can't think of anything unusual I did. Just sat on the train and walked in the train station. Disappointing.
Customer Review: Decent, but not amazing Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the JLab earbuds as a replacement for my iPod headphones, and by and large, I'm very satisfied. These offer an excellent value, but it'd be dishonest to say they're perfect. A few things stand out:
Pros:
1. Fit: They come with three different silicone sizes and one of them is sure to fit your ears. These can be worn for hours without any tension.
2. Sound: The dynamics are good, but, not out of this world. I find that the bass response is a bit better than the iPod headphones but nothing worth writing home about.
Cons:
1. Feedback: This is by far the biggest problem. Unlike the iPod headphones, the cords are significantly thinner which poorly shields feedback. When it's windy outside, or the cord rubs against my jacket I can hear a huge amount of rustling from the speakers.
2. Working out: Although they fit well, they tend to jostle a bit and can slip out
3. Noise reducing: These are definitely not actively noise reducing. They just sit snuggly in your ear and block out some sound.
Overall, I would say these are worth the money. If I bought ear buds again, I would look for a design that featured a thicker cord to reduce feedback.
Customer Review: Much more comfortable to use than the ipod headphones. Summary: 5 Stars
I was prompted to look for new earbuds when I couldn't find mine- and frankly the ones that came with my ipod are downright uncomfortable, even painful after wearing them a while. So far the jbods have been MUCH more comfortable than the ipod earbuds.
By default the jbuds are equipped with the medium sized buds, so I simply switched them for the smaller ones (included with them, as well as larger).
Another nice feature is the noise reduction. (It doesn't cancel it out entirely, but at this price point what can you expect?) It's a bit like when you stick your fingers in your ears- everything outside is dulled a bit. The audio going in however, is quite clear.
One odd thing- on the jlabs page it says these don't work with an ipod or an itouch. But I tried mine with an itouch and they work great!
I also bought the earbud case when I got these. I have to say it... it's cute. :-) It is fairly sturdy but slightly resilient, and includes a small screen-like pocket on the inside to hold your alternate sizes of ear tips.
I'd be very comfortable recommending this product.
