Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (Black)Customer Review: Acceptable for the price Summary: 3 Stars
For ten dollars, these headphones are not a steal, but still a very low price. But, you get what you pay for. Noise isolation with these headphones are not too great; I can still hear everything outside me when music is playing, but it's just at a reduced volume.
The sound quality is good for this price, but in a more broad look at it the sound is nothing to brag about. For a few bucks more (5-10) you can get some skullcandy earbuds that isolate noise more optimally than these JBuds, and sound better with better lows and mids.
The cord is also very cheap - again, you get what you pay for, but I really expected more. The left and right pieces are almost connected to eachother at first, so you have to rip the cord to give a gap between the left and right pieces so you can put them on. I can easily see myself ripping the cord accidentally in the future, thus creating a bigger gap and a huge mess along with that.
These earbuds have 3 tips: a large, medium and small size. It comes attached with the medium size, and it was a little too big for my ear, so I put on the small tips. The quality of sound noticeably reduced, especially bass, but for many the bass should still be adequate - it's not deprived of bass, but there's definitely not a lot there compared to others. Again, if this matters to you, shell out the extra bucks and go for something else, like a Skullcandy. These headphones are $10, what do you expect.
Overall, these headphones definitely deserve 4/5 stars for the $10 price. But I knocked off an extra star, because of the way the cord rips. This was a very bad design choice for the manufacturers.
Customer Review: Good Sound for the Price Summary: 4 Stars
Few people like the earbuds that come with their Sony Walkman or Ipod. Poor fit, poor comfort, and mediocre sound. And, because of their light weight, ear buds are fragile and most of them break after a few months of daily use.
The entry level model of the JBud earbuds offer a step up from the standard Ipod ear buds. Three sizes of silicone covers makes it possible to find a size that is reasonably comfortable and a size that provides the tight seal necessary with all earbuds to get good bass response.
The entry level JBuds are very cheaply constructed, and appear even more fragile than the typical earbud in the $30 to $70 price range. But, when the JBud is "on sale" for $10 or so, you can buy two or three of them, and when they break (which they will) just throw them away.
The JBud's instructions say to break them in by plugging them into a sound source for a few days. Out of the package, the JBud had no deep bass, and very little upper treble. Their bright sounding mid-range dominated their sound. After three days plugged into a radio set at a loud volume, the sound of the JBuds improved. Good bass, although not the deep and solid "punchy" bass of V-Moda ear buds. The lower mid-range had opened up, making voices sound more natural, but the voice quality was still not as good as Sony ear buds that sell in the $30 to $70 price range.
The ideal use of the JBuds is as your jogging and exercise earbuds. Their sound is okay, and the comfort and fit are adequate. Their low price means that when they break, just throw them away. Save your expensive earbuds for your "serious" listening at home.
Customer Review: These ear buds really sound good. Summary: 4 Stars
I have just started with an Apple ipod nano product and was not impressed with the factory included ear buds at all. They didn't sound real good and didn't come supplied with the ear bud pads in the box so they would just fall out of your ears. What's the deal with that? Next came the old Sony MDR 027 head phones from the closet. The Sony's have the old adjustable head bar so no more falling out of the ears now. They worked o.k., I guess, but in comparison these JBuds sound MUCH better than either of the previous ones. I'm now listening at half volume compared to about three quarters before and all sounds fine. I'm hearing parts of the music not audible before with the other two models. Crisper highs, great mid range, and responsive lows. Set up was fast too, just find the correct size ear bud pads out of the three different sized pairs supplied and your off and running. The JBuds actually stay in your ear. Wow what a concept. They are also very comfortable due to the fact I forgot they were in and started talking on the phone before noticing. The cord is just the right length for setting the ipod on a desk while still allowing plenty of movement or attaching it to a pocket. If you think you have a little too much just wrap some up with a bread tie. Better too much than not enough. So back to the closet with the Sony.
I guess what it all boils down to is you could do a whole lot worse than these especially for a mere twenty bucks. I couldn't have made a better choice for the money and quality. You should do the same.
Another quick note. The shipping went great. Not too long at all and with standard USPS. Thanks Amazon.
Customer Review: seemed like a good idea at the time... Summary: 2 Stars
I want my money back. I've owned 2 Iphones and 1 android phone. All of the included headphones sucked. They were just garbage. This really bothered me, because I love music. In fact one of the reasons I got a smartphone was so I wouldn't have to carry a mp3 player with me.
I'm pretty darn eclectic. I listen to pop, christian rock, rap, jazz, funk etc. So if I had to shell out some bucks to get some headphones, I wanted a pair that that will render the different sound ranges properly. I came across these headphones and they had pretty good reviews. In fact i read a review where a guy got the new version of the these headphones, and decided to go with the older version instead!
So I got them and showed them to my friends. We all loved it! You could hear your bass for your rap, your treble for your rock or whatever you wanted to listen to. I did notice that the cord seemed too long...but that didn't bother me. Fast forward a couple of months. After a workout I walked by my door, and this gargantuan cable got caught on the handle and yanked the ear bud out my ear!
Next thing I know,i have to fiddle with the cord just to get both earbuds to work! Fast forward a couple weeks later and I now have to fiddle with the cable to get one earbud to work!! This is nonsense! What can I do with one earbud???I know I only payed $9.99, but I could have kept the crappy Apple earbuds for free!
I'm contacting customer service. I'll keep everyone posted...JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (Black)
Customer Review: Comfortable but short-lived -- w/ 2 update reviews Summary: 2 Stars
I entirely agree with the review written by D. Smith of Houston, TX: these ear buds are fine while they last, which is not very long at all. I experienced the exact same problem she/he had, with one side shorting out and the other following within the week. I too came to Amazon today to remind myself of when I bought them. It was less than three months ago.
What good I can say about these ear buds is that 1) they are vastly more comfortable than those awful things that come stock with the ipod, and 2) the sound of these ear buds is perfectly fine for my purposes, which is to listen to NPR podcasts. The downside, however, is that I spent $20 on a pair of earbuds that lasted me less than 3 months before they shorted out. I do not consider that a good investment, and I won't be buying these again.
UPDATE on 5/24/09:
Brian Molina wrote a comment offering to replace my defunct JBuds. I had to email twice and call three times, but Brian eventually made good on his offer. More than that, he sent me samples of other JBuds I had not ordered. I thought this was very generous indeed.
UPDATE on 8/25/09:
3 months seems to be the life expectancy of these ear buds. The replacement set Brian sent me has shorted out. I stand by my original review that these are comfortable and functional while they last, but they don't last very long. The next generation J2 jbuds are not comfortable at all. I gratefully commend Brian for his sincere efforts, but I simply cannot recommend the products.
