Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (Black)Customer Review: Overrated Summary: 2 Stars
I bought the JBuds based on the reviews here on Amazon. I kind of made the assumption that the buds would be as good if not better as the Ipod standard buds, and they would have a bit more of the noise cancelling feature. I was half right... the JBuds do seem to prevent one from hearing outside sounds better than the Ipod buds, but the sound quality in my opinion is not as good. I am not a sound expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I will try to describe the differences. The JBuds seem to have a distant sound and have little "depth" to their sound. After listening to a song or two, I decided to see if I could add some bass to the sound. I had never did this with my Ipod, but quickly found the bass booster and this helped, but after listening for a few days on the JBUDs, I decided they were not as good. I did a comparison on a diverse entry on one of my songs. The JBuds (With the bass boost ON) did not have as good of bass as the IPod Buds (With the bass boost OFF). I guess the word I would use for the JBuds sound is shallow. They remind me of the old AM radio stations. Also, an indicator of the qualtiy of the buds in comparison to the Ipods is the wire. It is not of the same quality and it tangles more easily.
Also, it is worth saying that the only reason why I was looking for a new set of buds in the first place is because one of my Ipod buds has vibration issues on some songs. I thought I could upgrade my sound for 20 dollars, but I did not make the right choice for me.
Customer Review: a pleasure until they broke Summary: 5 Stars
I've only used cheap ear buds before, and boy, what a difference! These met and exceeded my expectations. They are very comfortable. They mostly stay in place (except when I catch the wires on something while I'm cleaning house and pull them out of my ears). They seal well in my ears. In fact, it's hard to sing along because it's like singing with your fingers in your ears. the sound is perfectly adequate for my taste. I'm glad I bought them. I don't see any need for anything more expensive.
Update one year later:
I purchased these 14 months ago, used them once or twice a week and was very happy. The only problem I had was keeping them in my ears, as I usually used them when cooking and cleaning, and they would tend to come loose with motion. Perhaps I should have tried a different size earpiece.
Yesterday the wiring broke down such that I can now only hear out of one side unless I tweak the wire at the port just right. Unfortunately, the warranty is only for one year. I don't think I was particularly hard on the wires, but I usually put the ipod in my front jeans pocket and perhaps my repetitive bending movements caused the wires to bend in my pocket and caused damage--just a theory. I would like to change my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars, but they won't let me change it now, it seems.
I probably would buy another pair, especially at the current rock-bottom price, but I think I'll go with the newer model this time and see if things go better.
Customer Review: I was expecting better quality...... Summary: 4 Stars
Some places still charge 20 to 40 dollars for these headphones. For anyone who has payed that much i honestly feel bad for them.
For amazon's price of 9.99 they aren't so bad. But they aren't perfect either..
They fall out of my ears alot. Even with the bigger buds they still have a hard time staying in my ears without slipping..
The sound quality is good. But you really have to shove them in your ears to get a good sound. Or else they sound too quiet and weak..another big big problem is the little speakers inside can't handle high sounds. I was listening to Yiruma (a korean pianist). Nothing bass heavy or massive like metal or rock, just PIANO! and the headphones would make a kind of distorted/static like sound when he plays higher notes on his piano..WOW. I'm sorry JBUDS but why would you ever try to sell these for more than 10 bucks? So many other reviewers below me payed 20 or more..that's not right. They are good headphones but the company should not try to pass them off as high quality headphones. I have also noticed that the right side of the headphones is a little quieter then the left side. I don't know whats up with that. I have only had them for a day and have treated them perfectly. Right out of the package the left sound just sounded louder. I don't know..maybe if both sides had been equally loud i would of rated them higher. I'm sorry Jbuds.
Good headphones though....great for 10 bucks and if you don't have a lot of money.
Customer Review: Best $20 earbuds money can buy Summary: 5 Stars
I had only every use old fashioned headphones. Cans they are called. I never believed that good sound production could be had by "earbuds" and therefore never tried them.
I was buying these for my wife. It turns out that even the smallest rubber "buds" that came with these headphones were too big for her hears. If you have small ear holes, these may not be for you. I have very large ear holes and I had to use the smallest "buds" on the phones.
I plugged them into my PDA MP3 player. With my old headphones, the volume had to be up around 9-10. I put the buds in my ears and hit "Play." Whoa! The volume was more than loud, it was extremely loud. So, I turned the volume down to about 2-3. Now I use the earbuds to play music when I am mowing the lawn. The JBuds DO reduce the noise of the lawnmower and I was able to hear the music clearly OVER the lawnmower. It was a great experience to actually be able to hear the music while mowing the lawn.
Needless to say that even though I bought these for my wife and they do not fit her, I am glad to have bought these earbuds. I recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone who needs some noise reducing earbuds.
They have faithful bass response and the highs are not muddy. Of course they don't compare with $200 earbuds, but the good thing is that they don't cost $200.
For the money, these are awesome headpho...er, earbuds.
(So old, can't stop calling them head phones, albums, cool daddio...)
Customer Review: Quite comfortable but not very noise-reducing, and not durable Summary: 3 Stars
As everyone knows, the earphones that come with the iPod are a joke - big & bulky, painful for all but those with the largest ear openings. For Christmas 2008, my spouse got me a pair I'd put on my Amazon wishlist (the particular brand/style, which had cost around $19 is no longer there, too bad), which are the best earbuds I've ever had -- they had a solid-foam ear insert, that you rolled between your fingers for a few seconds to warm up (like the foam earplugs you use at a shooting range, or when diving - after you roll/warm them, you stick in your ears and they form to a custom fit), and they fit & sounded wonderful. I used those for my iPod Shuffle, but after I discovered all the great free movies/shows on Netflix's free streaming service, I began watching a lot of stuff on my laptop...and found I needed another pair of earbuds, since that first pair was never on the same floor as my laptop.
Went back to Amazon to order another pair of those pink jobbies, and couldn't find them. So ordered these. They're comfortable for long-term use (but not as much as the pink jobbies), but don't block outside sound unless you're listening to something through them. And although they come with different sizes of rubber ear-fittings, be careful trying to replace them, because the rubber is extremely thin & flimsy, and rips easily. Learned the hard way.
Overall, a great value. But not as good as those pink ones with the foam fittings.
