The drive works fine in Windows XP Pro SP2. Works as expected for a USB 2.0 hard drive. However, when you turn on your PC while the drive is plugged in and turned on, when going through the BIOS test, at least on my PC, the computer freezes. I looked for a BIOS upgrade for my MOB, but to no avail. I checked all settings in my BIOS, but nothing would help the drive get past the BIOS setup without freezing the PC. It seems that the issue lies between the BIOS setup and right before the Windows XP loading screen comes up. At that point, there is a lull and seems to cause the drive to cause a "stop" because you can't hear the drive running anymore. It's on, but no function. Maybe my MOB has a problem recognizing drives larger than 500GB??? Not sure if that is the case, but a possibility. My MOB is not very old...2006 model with 3GHz Hyperthreading. So, my only alternative is to either turn on the drive when the Windows XP loading screen comes up or unplug the USB cable and wait for the Windows XP loading screen to come up and then plug back in the USB cable. Since I don't want to wear out the switch on the drive, I elect to unplug the USB cable and wait for the Windows XP loading screen before I plug in the drive's USB cable. Works fine then for me. I did a Google search on this issue and there are people who have had this issue with USB external hard drives before using Windows XP. Otherwise, the drive, like I said before, works in Windows as expected for a USB 2.0 external hard drive. I chose Iomega because of it's reliability and even though I do have the issue above, it is really a minor one. As long as it works flawlessly in Windows, I'm happy.
