Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Inspire portable speakersCustomer Review: Accessories pictured NOT included! Summary: 2 Stars
While the speakers themselves work well and the output is surprisingly loud and clear, the speakers that my seller, Semsons, sent me were not the brand listed (they were d.MUSE, rather than Pro Power), and the cable pictured in the photos and described in the reviews, which allows you to use electric current from a laptop or PC rather than batteries to operate the speakers, wasn't included. Also, several reviews described a volume adjustment on the speakers themselves, but mine had only an on/off switch; the volume could be controlled only through the iPod. The Semsons phone rep said that the accessories, though pictured, weren't expressly specified in the written description, so I was out of luck. My only recourse was a partial refund, but I'd have to pay for return shipping--which would cost more than the [...] item price, so I'd lose money on the exchange. Instead, I spent four times the price of the speakers to buy a standard power adapter at Radio Shack, so my $4 speakers ended up costing more than $20. If you want surprisingly decent portable speakers for a very low price and don't mind using only batteries to operate them, thse are great. If you want to be able to use both battery power and electric current, check with your seller to make sure the pictured cable is included, or be prepared to provide your own electric adapter.
Customer Review: Sorely lacking in product description Summary: 2 Stars
These little speakers really aren't that bad, especially given the price. But the seller tells us almost nothing about them to let us make an informed buying decision. There were two major flaws (to me) that would have prevented my purchasing these speakers if they had been adequately described in the listing:
1) The connection cable to the iPod is only 7 inches long. If you plan to have it anywhere other than in the semi-dock the speakers provide, this cable is worthless.
2) The description says that the speakers come with an AC adapter. This is only partially true. They come with an adapter that will let you get power from a USB input. So to get actually get AC power, you need more than just this unit. You will either need your computer or another adapter that changes a USB input into a wall input plug.
As I said, these speakers are likely perfect for many people. But they fail for my intended use. I'd hoped to keep them in the bathroom so I could use them in the shower. I could connect them to my iPod, which would remain safely *outside* of the bathroom. I may be able to work around the various cable failings, but it bothers me that the merchant failed to describe his product properly. Hence the two star review.
Customer Review: Outstanding! Summary: 5 Stars
I just received two of these. For the money, this is the best technology imaginable. The sound quality is superb for such a small device. The controls and plugs are easily accessible and easy to use. They are very well designed and to my tastes attractive while on display. They fold up into a little cube for packing. I have wanted an easy way to listen to my iPod Nano while doing other things, like working on my bonsai collection in the garden. Earphones are a pain unless I am driving. I tried to stream podcasts from my netbook, but the built in speakers were woefully weak, and the form factor was a pain to have to move around. I'm ordering two more. They are well built and can plug into any "headphone" output of desktop, laptop, netbook, iPod. I have one desktop computer without speakers. Now I can have this little unit plugged in for audio and power to the desktop with it perfectly nestled under the LCD, and listen to stuff that I had to use earphones for previously. You see, I already have two sets of speakers connected to other computers in the same work area for high quality sound should I ever need it. Music even sounds great on these little speakers. Get some while you can!
Customer Review: Good speakers for the price Summary: 4 Stars
My baby loves "white noise" and so I bought this to be able to play white noise through our iPod touch and put it near him, wherever we happened to put him down. It's small enough that it's really great for this, since I can put it basically anywhere. The size also makes it easy to carry him and tote the speakers in the other hand! It seems to get a lot of run-time from four AAA batteries (over eight hours thus far on one charge of our eneloop rechargables) as well. The sound quality is okay: I think it's probably comparable to the speakers on my iPhone, but it's certainly much louder. It seems like it would be very handy indeed for the office, garage or outdoor work, or even shower (not in the water!) use. However, if you're looking for impeccable audio quality, look elsewhere. The only real negative I can see is that the mechanism for keeping the mp3 player in place. Since the iPod touch has the audio-in jack on the bottom, I have to turn it upside down to put it in, and even then I don't feel like it stays in very well. However, some simple "junk-drawer engineering" will probably solve that problem (probably a few well placed rubber bands will do).
Hope this helps!
Customer Review: Not too shabby.. Summary: 4 Stars
I couldn't get an FM transmitter to work with my iPod, probably due to the area I live in, so what was my next thought? Portable speakers! I don't have a lot of money (iPod was a gift)and needed something that was small enough to carry in a purse. Unlike some other people, I am pleased with this little unit. It's portablity and price is unbeatable!! I had no problems with installing the batteries or keeping the cover on. The unit is light weight and seems fairly sturdy. I tossed it around a bit to simulate the damage it might receive in my car and nothing broke. The sound is fairly good with all types of music. The only thing that compromises the sound is by putting the speakers up to full volume and the iPod up to full volume, the sound becomes real tinny and almost staticy. However, I found that with the iPod at half volume and this device at full volume, the sound was clear and fairly loud! I could hear it just fine over highway noise! This was a great purchase to serve my purpose. So if you're looking for a cheap set of speakers for the road, vacation or just a room.. this just might do the trick! I think it was well worth the money I spent.
