Customer Review: Not what I expected

I bought the ITNS-300 for myself for Xmas. I got it at Kohl's. It was on "sale" for about $50 (which, coincidentally, seems to be the price it can be found here on Amazon.com).
Installation went okay except that the device didn't work properly after I installed it. I'm running Windows 7 (32 bit) so I thought it might be a problem with Windows 7. I don't think it is. The program would launch and the 'live view' would start to display an image but nothing else would happen and then it seemed to lock up.
Just for fun I rebooted the computer and restarted the program. It started working. Once I got it running things went pretty well. As mentioned by a lot of folks, the image quality isn't very good and the colors do not reproduce faithfully. Everything is rather washed out.
It takes quite a bit of color and level manipulation in Photoshop to get the images looking 'normal'.
I scanned 53 photos before taking a break to go out and shovel more snow (we got hit pretty hard with snow!). I shut down the program when I finished saving the last photo. When I went to insert the negative film holder for the last time I noticed the little 'door' was broken. Closer inspection revealed that the doors on both sides had broken and were not functioning properly. I removed them both and they don't seem to be necessary for the unit to work. I imagine they function more to keep dust out.
When I came back inside and launched the program again I noticed that it wasn't giving me the live view any more and the scan button wasn't working either. Eventually I got it working by unplugging the USB cable and moving it to a different USB port. It then reinstalled the device driver and it began working again.
All in all it seems rather buggy and the image quality is marginal at best. I do realize that some of my negatives are old and haven't been stored in the best of conditions. And a lot of them were processed overseas when I was in the military so there might be some other reason for the quality to be less than stellar.
I think it's probably worth the $50 or so that I paid for it but I'm really glad I didn't buy it when it was over $100. I would have felt cheated.
Update: Seems like I should have waited just a bit before submitting my review.
I'm up to around 100 images now and the machine is 'locking up' about every other time I load a new piece of negative film. I have to keep restarting the program and then I'm lucky if I get even 3 images done before it stops working again.
Another annoyance: the program doesn't remember the folder you select in which to store images. It keeps defaulting back to the top level "my pictures" folder.
