Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Snap-N-Store SNS01658 Double Wide CD Storage Box (Black)Customer Review: Stay clear of these. Summary: 2 Stars
I had given a thumbs up on these based on the functionality of previous "snap" boxes I had purchased from Amazon to store CDs and DVDs. I've just tried to snap this double CD box together, and the only thing that's snapping is my patience. Perhaps due to shipment in their flattened condition, the boxes have become excessively warped, as I've simply been unable to make them stay snapped shut for more than a second or two. The real gremlin appears to be the divider that snaps lengthwise across the middle of the box. Since the ends are slightly bowed outwards, the divider simply won't snap. The ends have to be forced against their present bias for the snaps to make contact, but it would take some mighty strong epoxy to translate mere "contact" into a connection that is "intact." Worse, the snaps on the corners of the box come loose while attempting the foregoing action. Thus far, I've had no such difficulties when using individual snap-together boxes, rather than double boxes such as those pictured here. The shoebox concept along with a storage case without slots makes a lot of sense. These don't have slots, but that's about the only good thing I can say on their behalf.
Customer Review: Frank Summary: 5 Stars
I have to tell you, for the money this product is at the top of my list!!!!!
It not only looks good, is easy to assemble, and is sturdy. It is versatile and well constructed. The fact that it can be collapsed and stored to a one inch thickness is great too. I initially bought only a couple of these units to try them to see if they would work in the organization I had hoped for.
They are deep enough, but not too deep. When completely full to capacity they are still a good size to manage and not too heavy. The removable divider also makes them more versatile to use for other things if you decide you want to for other than the intended purpose. The lids fit down over the top of the box so that transporting more than one at a time is easy and secure. They are plenty sturdy to stack one on top of the other,if desired.
After unpacking and assembling the first order, I ordered twice more and have now completely organized my entire CD collection. The units look good enough for displaying them in the open too. I am sure that I will have many years of use of these. As my collection grows I will be making additional purchases. I give this product 6 out of 5 stars!!!!
Customer Review: Useful, but poor build quality Summary: 3 Stars
Bought several of these. Most common problem is end pieces being slightly bowed outward, causing center divider not to reach ends of box and snap in securely (or at all in extreme cases). For most of mine, I was able to flex the ends slightly, but in one case, the stress of the divider piece pulling on the glued-on snap strip caused the strip to break off, and I had to re-glue it.
Having said that, these are still the most compact CD storage boxes I've been able to find, and the cardboard seems heavy enough to stand up well to stacking. If you can put up with the build quality issues (e.g. if you plan on using the boxes for long-term storage only), or if you don't mind a little work with glue or tape to secure the weak points, they will work just fine.
Be advised that the compartments are barely wide enough for two standard jewel cases with the divider in place. Jewel cases with slip covers fit *very* snugly. Anything wider, and you may have to just leave the divider out, or store them sideways.
Customer Review: Use a cardboard box instead Summary: 1 Stars
Many of the snaps were misaligned. The divider attachment strips were so poorly glued that they fell off before I had a chance to snap in the divider. Because the snaps on the divider were also misaligned the attachment strips wouldn't have worked even if they had been properly glued in. With the misaligned snaps the box looked like some 5 year old made it.
Save your money. Instead get a cardboard box 10" wide and about 5" high. Tape the flaps back to the side of the box. You will have a CD storage box vastly superior to this one.
No doubt the original design was decent, but what happens to many (if not most) of the products produced in China is -- The initial batch is delivered to specifications and carefully crafted. Then subsequent batches are repeatedly 'economized' to the benefit of the Chinese manufacturer (not the guy who contracted with the Chinese to have the product built) so that eventually the product degenerates into pure garbage.
Customer Review: Great for Storing Almost Anything! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased several of the Snap-N-Store Double Wide CD Storage Boxes - thinking that I would use them to organize my CD'S. But when I opted instead to throw out all of my CD cases and store my CD's in binders, I decided to use these boxes as storage containers throughout my home - and they're great!
These Snap-N-Store boxes look much nicer than other organizing/media boxes I've purchased in the past, and they are pretty sturdy too. I like them so much that I'm planning to purchase several more in the near future.
A word of caution though - I've found that when moving the boxes from place to place the snaps occasionally come undone. Usually the box maintains its shape and nothing spills out, but I would suggest not putting anything breakable in these boxes unless you plan on leaving the box on a shelf, table, or somewhere else sturdy. (This issue is why I gave these boxes a 4 vs. a 5 rating).
