Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of IOGear Enhanced Data Rate Bluetooth USB Adapter with Range up to 66 ft. GBU221 (Grey)Customer Review: Great Buy! Summary: 5 StarsGreat Buy! Couldn't be happier. Works great - easy to install - found all my devices. No problem with installing. It is a little wide, but I am still able to use both usb ports. Great for the price.
Customer Review: BTA Summary: 5 StarsThis purchase was good. It worked perfectly, quick shipping and new in original package. No problems
Customer Review: Works with Windows 7 RC! Summary: 5 StarsAlthough it didn't work out of the box with Windows 7 RC I'm still giving it 5 stars because of the excellent support that got me through.
To install under Windows 7 (and save yourself the support call) here's what you do:
1. Make sure the device is NOT CONNECTED to your computer
2. Go to [...] and download the file (it's one file no matter what version of XP/Vista/W7 you are using)
3. Once its downloaded extract it and double click on setup. Let it do its thing until it complains it can't find the device. Click CANCEL and it will finish the installation.
4. Reboot your computer
5. Insert the device and wait for the driver to be installed. Once its done, you are good to go. If after waiting a bit (10 minutes) nothing happens, right click on the bluetooth icon on your taskbar and hit "start using bluetooth".
6. If you've done the installation a different way, you may run into the software complaining about an invalid license. Disconnect the adapter from the computer, uninstall the software, reboot the computer and go to step 1 above.
Once everything is installed the adapter and software work like a charm. I'm using it with a Plantronics 590 and Skype 4.0 and voice quality couldn't be better. In terms of range I wouldn't go much beyond 20 ft. but frankly, this may be a limitation of my Plantronics headset (although the same headset coupled with my iPhone allows me to roam a bit further).
All in all, very satisfied.
Customer Review: It could be better Summary: 2 StarsI wasn't quite sure what to expect from this device but I did not like the installation. After installing this device a different USB device no longer functioned properly and so I had to uninstall this device to get it to work again...Also, Bluetooth is a relatively new networking technology and documentation is sparse about what protocols support what functions or even if a particular device will support the protocol to get the function a person wants. I wanted the FTP protocol so I transfer files from my cell phone to my computer without hooking up the stupid USB cable to the computer all the time. The phone supports sync and so does the IOGEAR device but I found out the speed of my phones bluetooth was slower than IOGEAR so to do a sync took a couple of hours for a few pictures. Suffice it to say this device has limited use for me. Fortunately, it didn't cost much but I'll be happy when the day arrives when I don't have to hook-up the USB to or remove the microSD from my cell phone to transfer photos or music.
Customer Review: Works with Vista 64 bit Summary: 5 StarsRight out of the box it works. Plug it in...follow Vista's "found new hardware" instructions and withing 30 seconds it is up and running. No need to install the included software (which may or may not be compatible with Vista 64 bit anyway). Good price too.
