Customer Review: Works with 2GB SD cards (updated)
Summary: 4 Stars

Update: I contacted the company a second time and they confirmed that there was a hardware problem that is now fixed. They offered to replace my old one with a new one. The new one is the same product number as the old one (GFR202SD) so there is no way to tell what hardware version you will get. Given that the company recognizes there is a problem and will replace any old ones, I give this 5 stars. I would defintely buy this again. It's the smallest one out there, which makes it very convenient to carry with me and I've never had a problem (other than stated below, which is now fixed). 5 STARS

Careful about what product # you get. IOgear has 2 products, GFR202SD and GFR202SDW6. The GFR202SD does not read cards bigger than 512MB. I got a Crucial Technologies 2GB SD card and could never read it with the GFR202SD, but the 2GB card is readable on other readers. I contacted IOgear and they confirmed the GFR202SD has a 512MB limit. I don't know anything about the GFR202SDW6, but I'm hesitant to buy it because I don't know if it will read my 2GB card.

Otherwise, it's a great little tool and extremely handy. I never had a problem with it on my 512MB cards and would highly recommend it if you expect to never have larger capacity cards.

Customer Review: Compact, versatile, and so far durable.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've bought one or two other tiny SD drives since getting my digicam, expressly to simplify the process of moving files from camera to PC, and they've all had minor issues. Not so with this one. It's small, durable (the covers securely protect the USB plug and SD socket when pocket-carried, unlike a competing model whose rubber flap constantly came open), and does its one job quite well. It isn't an everything-reader, like some drives try to be; it only reads SD cards. But if that's all you need, there seems to be less that can go wrong with this version.

I've also used it as a thumb drive in a pinch (the cover can be put on _over_ the SD card; a 1 gig card lives in mine constantly, which _also_ means that I always have a spare card handy), and to move files to and from my phone's micro-SD card with the standard adapter (which can live in the drive).

I never thought I'd carry an SD reader habitually, but this one's so compact and useful that it's in my pocket more often than not. This has allowed me to save files and share photos and video in situations that I couldn't otherwise. The portability really does make all the difference.

Customer Review: Don't you love it when it does what it says it will?
Summary: 4 Stars

This one is a lil gem. Did you ever need to get the data from your SD card while at another puter? Of course you have. Enter this reader/flash drive. Not only is it very tiny and, erm, very affordable, it does just what it says it will ... reads, writes and stores so fast you have to look twice. (Wow! All those files THAT fast?!?!!? A-yup!)
I'm very impressed indeed.

-It's tiny & cute.
-It installed itself like butter (Win NT, XP).
-Down the road, when you get a bigger card (and you so know you will), you'll have a bigger flash drive. So it should not end up chucked in the corner in a month or two. It's got a future.
-It's got an LED so you know it's working.
-You should be able to access your SD card data nearly anywhere.

Nitpick: The cover over the SD card while fine does not hitch on with quite the kind of security I prefer (it slides on and off.) No problems at all so far, but I'll be watching that and treating it with due respect.
Meanwhile: Success, simplicity and E-Bliss.
Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Best $10 I've spent in a good while.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this lil' drive over a year ago, I had a 128MB SD card gathering dust and I figured for $10 I'd put it to good use... Transfers were a bit slow (pretty much USB 1.1-like) but it did it's job.

I recently bought a 2GB Sandisk Ultra II card and I figured I'd try it out w/the iogear drive, I was almost sure it wouldn't work but lo' and behold it does... And the best part is the ginormous speedboost w/this card.

I just tested it with HD Tach, with the old 128MB it barely managed 1.0 MB/s transfers, with the new Ultra II it pretty much drives the card at it's rated 10.7 MB/s speed.

The model number on mine is the same old GFR202SD and like I said, I bought it over a year ago so most of the ones out there should easily work w/2GB SD cards.

I've had mine for a year and the caps still fit just as snug. Great investment all in all.

Customer Review: IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader
Summary: 5 Stars

It works...that simple. I read a couple of negative reviews prior to ordering. I received the product and couldn't find anything I didn't like about it. It fits in the pocket of a shirt or pants. I visited friends over the holidays and simply took the SD card out of the camera and let them have their pictures prior to leaving their house and coming home. You can use it to store documents as well as photos. Carry an extra SD card for your camera. The SD card slides into one end and there is a cap to cover it. The USB plug is the other end. No software needed. XP recognized it on four computers so far with no problems. No big deal. It's simple and works. Don't loose the caps. There are two caps and one central (body) unit that holds the SD card (cap #1) and contains the USB plug (cap #2). Three pieces to the unit. (see pic on Amozaon's page)
