Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of IOGEAR 5-Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 PCI Card GIC251UCustomer Review: Works great- Mac G4 Digital Audio Summary: 5 Stars
I was unsure what to buy that would work for my mac- and this Iogear 5 port USB 2.0 PCI card worked great. Installing in the mac was easy. Remove the metal cover from an extra slot- stick in the card- screw it into place and voila`! Turn your mac on and it's there- no software to install- nothing special to do- Just insert and enjoy high speed transfers! The reason I didn't but the Startech was because someone else's review mentioned compatibility issues- well, I don't know if that's true or not- but I thought it was worth the extra $5 for peace of mind in buying a name brand PCI card. So far, so good!
Customer Review: Beware of Conflicts Summary: 2 Stars
Because I use a USB hard drive and SuperDuper to back up my Quicksilver G4 Mac, I wanted to save myself 3 days by using the faster USB 2. My USB 2 computer backs up in 3 hours, the G4 takes 3 days. I bought the IOGEAR Hi-Speed USB 2.0 PCI Card (GIC251U) and installed it. I had another PCI card installed to let the G4 recognize a larger hard drive I had installed. The IOGEAR Card froze the computer and destroyed the other PCI card, which means that second hard drive is no longer available to my G4. Considerable loss. Make sure you investigate thoroughly for conflicts with software and hardware.
Customer Review: Upgrade works like a charm with XP Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted to upgrade from USB 1.1 in my older Dell, specifically to upload pictures from my camera faster. Install was a breeze, and no software install necessary with XP. Everything was instantly recongized when I powered the system back on.
Uploading photos from the camera was blazingly fast compared to USB 1.1. What used to take about 15 minutes is now done in about a minute, and having a few extra ports available is a nice plus for the future.
There's also a standard USB port available to use INSIDE the computer, but I haven't quite figured out what to do with that.
Customer Review: Plug and Play conflict with Dell Dimension 8200 Summary: 1 Stars
I have a Dell Dimension running winXP SP2 and this card isn't recognized. In fact, I get an error as soon as the PC powers up, before windows launches. I have no idea what's wrong; I've reseated the card so I doubt it's a connectition problem. Perhaps I have a defective unit.
[Update: IOGear customer service responded by email the same day and suggested I swap this card with another to clear up the problem, and the fix worked. I'm impressed with that level of customer service and the card seems to work fine now. I would rate this a 4 now that it's working.]
Customer Review: Just as advertised. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this card after realizing I needed USB 2 to run a new Ipod. Other reviews said that lesser cards were subsituted but I received the IOGEAR USB 2 card as advertised. I have a Dell Dimension 8200 PC with Windows XP. I also had previously installed service pack 1. The card went in without a problem. It was immediately recognized by the machine on startup. Windows XP already had the drivers so I did not need to use the cd that came with the card. I did not even have to restart the computer to use the new card. This was a bargain for $ 19.99 plus shipping!
