Customer Review: Be careful how you wire this unit up!

I can't rate the unit's functionality since I blew it up due to some bad wiring instructions in the manual.
The manual states that the white/black wire coming out of our junction box should hook up to one of the black wires coming out of the unit. On hindsight, this white/black wire is NOT neutral, it is the continuation of the hot wire going up to the light. People with more experience with electric circuits in the house will probably say 'duh', but I asked two people at work with significant experience on this and they both agreed this is particularly vague. Not everyone knows that white/black actually is supposed to mean 'white wire with black band of electrical tape'.
So how else would it switch the light and fan you may ask? Well, given that the unit comes with a big receiver box you mount in the light/fan I figured this must be a wireless system, and doesn't need a wire going between the switch and the fan. Classic situation of an engineer overthinking the problem.
What irks me is that this means that the electronics in this box does not use a neutral wire, relying entirely on ground. This is what made me second guess the instructions, figured surely this device must hook up to neutral somehow! So make sure you've got a good ground coming from your junction box to your service (not always a given in an old house with conduit) or this unit will most likely not work.
Other gripes, this is a big switch and you really have to cram it into the outlet box, especially if your box is also acting like a juntion box to other outlets in the house. It is also not particularly pretty, but it was the only unit I could find with this functionality.
So, learn from my mistake, White/Black in the instructions is actually the switched hot wire going to the light!
