Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Hoodman H-LPP3 HoodLoupe 3.0 Professional 3-Inch Screen Loupe

Customer Review: Hoodman 3" Screen Loupe
Summary: 5 Stars

I was thinking of buying the loupe before my trip to Yellowstone this fall. Time constraints prevented the purchase. Bright sunshine blessed us during the trip, but made it hard to see the screen. While reviewing shots of Old Faithful, I noticed two dark spots on on my pictures. Turns out that there was two pieces of detritus on my sensor. I had shot about eighty pics before I noticed. If I had the loupe with me. I'm sure that I would have noticed much sooner and saved a lot of time fixing the spots in Paint Shop Pro. I bought the loupe from Amazon and am quite satisfied with the quality and performance. Individual pixels are resolved while zooming to the maximum review on my D300. A very useful tool.

Customer Review: Eye Opener
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this after struggling for years trying to see my digital pictures in the back of my camera in sunlight.

Pros: It completely covers the screen, blocking the sunlight and it has a diopter adjustment so you can view the image without glare and it's sharp.
Cons: At least with my camera, it gets in the way of my buttons on the back, which means I have to keep removing it from the screen to forward to the next picture or to zoom in. It would be better if there was a way to attach it to the camera back while viewing the pictures and remove it when you need to use the viewfinder...like the way you can slide an eyecup on or off the viewfinder.

Customer Review: Wanted One For Years.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've wanted one of these for years. I always talked myself out of it because of the price. After not being able to see the screen in daylight for a couple shoots recently, I was frustrated and bought it. Incredible.

You can adjust it so you can see the image like it's on your large screen LCD, because it's magnified. You can focus it with or without glasses, and if you need glasses to see close, you can focus it so you don't need to wear your glasses. It's just amazing.

I also use it to see more detail on the back LCD even when I don't need it for light blocking. High quality and well worth the money. I carry it everywhere now.

Customer Review: Great But.........
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently received my Hoodman H-LPP3 HoodLoupe. It seems a bit expensive but I've found no competitive product. I live in southern Arizona and with our beautiful bright skies I was having challenges making sure my images were sharp. The device works well and does what I bought it for. That being said, why in the world doesn't it have lens caps? If you photograph outdoors a great deal and wear the Loupe with the strap around your neck both ends become dust covered rapidly and at that point the product is no longer effective.

4 Stars for the product but can you imagine buying a new lens for our camera without a lens cap? I don't think so.

Customer Review: Yes, Expensive, But Useful
Summary: 5 Stars

This both covers the LCD from bright light and magnifies - making it easy to check the details of your image in any light situation. The magnification is just strong enough that you can see the pixels of the LCD screen. But since it hoods the light coming onto the LCD, you don't have to worry about 'auto dimming' features as with the 5DMII misrepresenting your lighting.

As an onlocation shooter, I've found this to be indispensible. I haven't attached it to my MII for HD video but I am looking forward to being able to actually see where I am focusing in the future. I've found it impossible to use the LCD for video work on the MII.
