Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Hoodman H-LPP3 HoodLoupe 3.0 Professional 3-Inch Screen LoupeCustomer Review: Great Device Summary: 5 Stars
At this price, I was really reluctant to spend this much on this and I waited a long time, hoping to see a price drop. But I'd lost count of the number of times, I'd be out on a shoot and wished I could see what I just shot on the LCD, especially in bright sunlight when not even shading the LCD helps. The construction is impressively high quality, the case is lightweight and exceptionally well-made as well. Better than what I expected from Hoodman (having two LCD covers break on me, I was hesitant to invest in any more Hoodman products - the total price of those two items equaling the price of the loupe). The loupe covers the LCD screen on my D80 easily, holding it between my face and LCD, I can forward the slide view with my right thumb without any problem. It does not "activate" the other buttons (you'd have to be pressing down pretty hard for that to happen). The adjustable eyepiece is great for those of us who are myopic. Altogether it's bulky, but the clip on the case is sturdy and I attach it to the camera bag strap when in use. I'm giving it 5 stars for the quality construction and usefulness. If you can get it for less, good on you! By all means, get it!
Customer Review: Hoodman loupe Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased one of these for my point and shoot camera (Olympus 1030SW) that does not have a viewfinder. Despite having no viewfinder, the Olympus is the perfect point and shoot camera for me because of the environments in which I operate. I finally had enough of not being able to see the screen in bright light. My mistake was not buying this loupe sooner. I should not have read the lower-rated reviews of this loupe because they only delayed my makng a decision I should have made much sooner.
This is an ideal piece of equipment for its intended purpose. I rated it 4 instead of 5 stars because I think it is a bit overpriced. A more reasonable price would be $50-$60. However, it is pretty much the only game in town. On the plus side, it is very nicely made, and not cheap feeling or appearing. Extending the cost over the many years I plan to use it, and the fact that it is ideal for the purpose, puts the cost more into perspective.
If you need to be able to see your LCD screen in bright light this will do the job and you will wonder, as I did, why you did not purchase it sooner. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Works but inconvenient to use Summary: 3 Stars
The Loupe 3.0 is a non-magnified LCD loupe designed initially to help you inspect the detail of your images, especially in bright sunlight. It does do its job in that department. They are also marketing this as a viewfinder for DSLR's that record video. Since these camera's use LiveView mode, it's not easy to determine sharp focus while recording is taking place. Attach the Loupe 3.0 with the optional $20 rubber bands and this becomes an ad-hoc viewfinder. For this purpose it actually works, but it then becomes a pain to keep removing it every time you want to go back to the optical TTL viewfinder for taking pictures. The rubber bands that are optional should be thrown in for free as they're RUBBER BANDS and Hoodman should come up with a better solution for the $20 - like a pivoting attachment that would pivot the Loupe 3.0 down to allow the camera to be put back up to the eye when not shooting video.
The Loupe 3.0 is also a bit overpriced, but I do understand that it's a specialty product so I understand the laws of supply and demand. But $20 for the optional rubber bands? Come on Hoodman.
Customer Review: Important accessory for outdoor or landscape photographer Summary: 5 Stars
Hoodman HoodLoupe is a favorite tool for landscape or outdoor photographer. It allows you too view rear LCD screen without reflection cause by strong sun light.
The inner part of the hood is probably built from metal, and it is coated with rubber. The soft rubber prevent it to scratch your LCD screen and help to reduce the weight. It also has textured grip on the top and bottom of the Hoodloupe which is great. I think it can withstand rough and tumble of outdoor photography.
The lens is big, clear and accurate to view pictures in LCD screen. Unfortunately the lens is slightly convex. This is worsen if you wear glasses like me. It comes with handy and protective pouch, which is very good quality. The zipper is excellent and you can clip the pouch to your belt.
Overall, it is very light, and practical to use. Highly recommended for outdoor and landscape photography.

Customer Review: Why am giving it 3 stars Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this and I'm still using it for the Canon 7D camera. I gave it 3 stars for the following reasons...
GOOD:
* Let's you view your focus on LiveView in the bright sun.
BAD:
* There's no magnification so there's really no reason to charge $80 on this except to bump up the margins. The cost to manufacture this runs around $8-$10. Yes, you will feel ripped off as you buy this. It's like forgetting your toothbrush, being charged $80 for it, but you have no choice as there are no other solutions that's cheaper. And yes, no one is forcing you to buy it -- but now you know what kind of build quality this is.
* The camera straps that runs $20 are useless rubber bands. Do not buy.
* Aside from the useless rubber bands (which I gave a separate review for), there's no way to hold the hood up except maybe perhaps glue it or you can build a 'trap' using the tripod hole which I've seen some people do.
