First, note to Wintermoon: Adams never seriously took a "snapshot" in his life. Every shot was carefully considered, as it must be particularly when doing large-format photography. Often he took Polaroids before capturing the final composition with his 8x10". But true, he had a knowledge of film and light no one else ever possessed--before him or since him. Since the advent of digital we'll not likely ever see the likes of Adams again. (For any who really wants to understand photography, his books are the very best, well worth reading--two or three or ten times over.) By the way, he'd have loved the digital revolution in photography and would have taken full advantage of it. He was always very enthusiastic about new ways to do photography. Adams is still seriously under-appreciated for the extraordinary artist he really was.
I like Wintermoon's idea, if one needs to hold this terrific piece of equipment tight against a camera's display by actually attaching it. Very good idea, though there's another not quite so good method that might work for some people.
Get three small ponytail bands, tie (lanyard style) two of the three to opposite sides of the third one and then slip the center (third one) over the loupe like a rubber band to fit tightly around the base of the loupe section. (The rubber loop that allows for attaching the neck strap is removable if you don't need the strap, which I don't as I keep the thing in a case to grab out of when I need to use it.) Now you have two bands a lot more durable than rubber bands that can be used for two purposes: 1) to stretch around the front of the camera body near the base of the lens on each side to hold the loupe fairly well in place against the display (depending on your camera); and 2) one or both of the bands to hold in place any cloth cover you might want to use to keep the lens itself clean and scratch free. Just put the cover over it and flip one or both of the bands over the top to hold the cover in place. I use a very small chamois.
For any having a problem with the fact the lens doesn't stay where you adjusted it, get an automotive tape (I used a brand called Tesa, which I bought probably 20 years ago) intended for use with rubber hoses under your car's hood. The tape I used matches the color of the matte black Hoodman and sticks very, very well to rubber without the heaviness (or ugliness) of duct tape, which probably wouldn't stick as well either. (The Tesa is quite thin, not heavy at all.) I just cut a couple short pieces to attach opposite one another stretching from the rubber body of the hood proper to up near where the lens sits at the to of the loupe section. Now, I never have to readjust the lens, so firmly does the tape hold all in place.
This hood-loupe is terrific! What a great idea. So great it's practically mandatory if you're really interested in viewing the LCD in sunlight or even in lower light. I'm using it with a Panasonic Lumix LX3. It perfectly fits the display without obscuring any of it and without getting in the way of buttons and joystick to the right. View is exceptionally clear and sharp once diopter is set. And just the fact it's made of ubber helps it to kinda stick to the LCD even if you don't use anything actually to attach the hood to your camera. (I like the fact it doesn't attach permanently, since that would make for far too bulky a package to cart around. No problem keeping it in a case with polarizing filter and adapter necessary to use the filter, along with a bubble level, spare battery and/or memory card, cleaning cloth, lens brush, etc., etc.)
It IS expensive but worth the price in a way a lot of stuff just isn't. This thing really works and is a very big help.
