Customer Review: Piece of junk product looks used

So I actually bought this as a small gift for my wife. When I took it out of the shipping box to wrap it, I found that the packaging looked rather... old? During this inspection, I also noticed a weird black smudge on the car charger part. I thought it might've just been something that got on the plastic packaging. So I went to open the packaging, but was going to assume I wouldn't be able to without breaking some kind of seal. I was wrong. The packaging came right open like it had been opened a hundred times before. Lo and behold, the black smudge was on the actual charger, not the packaging. I tried wiping it off, but it seems to be embedded on there pretty good. It looks like someone used the product! I did not buy a used product.
Also, the charger units themselves are cheap plastic and are very light. They feel more like an overpriced kid's toy than anything else. It really feels like it would break the first moment it's dropped.
I'm giving the product 2 stars instead of 1 ONLY because I haven't managed to use it yet. I almost did use it since it looked used anyway, but I figured I'd wait for Christmas day when my wife is disappointed for receiving such a shoddy product.

This product is a great deal - but when I purchased it, I expected it to be an Apple product - IT IS NOT! It is a Chinese knock-off and not the same quality as the Apple products. The cables work but they aren't the same as the Apple products. This being said, however, I did write to the company and they were willing to take it back - but I'd be stuck paying for shipping twice.
Since they were cheap and since I had already paid for them, I've kept them. I just think the company has intentionally used the Apple name in their ad to draw sales.
If I had known this product was not from Apple, I would have spent extra money to buy the Apple version. I assumed that because this vendor was on Amazon, the product would be as described, but it wasn't.
Lesson learned. Nothing wrong with the cables, they work, but they are definitely not the same quality as my IPod and I worry that they could damage my new IPod. Buyer beware.

There is no reason to believe that this product was created by Apple even though that is what the seller would like you to believe you are buying. Apple has always been great about branding their products w/their logo. In fact, they are so proud of their logo they send you Apple stickers with your purchases so you help them advertise. That said, the product is currently charging my Apple Nano inside the house and the in car charger has worked the one time I plugged it in. It is a cheaply made, plastic, make in China product that is working thus far and cost me $4. I did think that I was buying an Apple made product but was suspicious about the price. If I was supposed to receive an "Apple iPod USB Travel Kit with Car Charger/Travel Adapter/Cable-White" that was actually made by Apple, Amazon sent me the wrong one. P.S. for Amazon.com, the picture of what you are asking me to review is not what you sent me either. What you sent was the "Apple iPod USB Travel Kit, etc." with the retractable USB cord. The USB cable looks and feels very similar to the apple one, but the chargers have a somewhat cheesy feel. Then again, that's totally to be expected when you buy a whole set for less than half the price of a cable or either charger alone from Apple or one of the name brand companies.
I also should note that the AC adapter is 100-240v compatible, so it can work worldwide. I was wondering about that when I bought it because none of the tech info mentioned it. In fact, the casing itself was designed to be used with the EU style plugs, and that's why it protrudes from the body of the case.
Also, the items I received look like the submitted picture, and not the MFG's picture, for what it's worth... Doesn't matter much because in any case the items aren't very aesthetically pleasing anyways.
Bottom line, from reading the other reviews it looks like they have QC issues, but I wound up with a perfectly functional set at a great price.

So far, I really like the charger. The thing I like the best, is the convenience of not having to find a computer to charge My I-pod. Another good feature of this charging unit, is that it doesn't reset the play count(on the I-pod), just because I'm recharging. I recommend anyone with an I-pod to get one of these. My opinion, they are a "MUST-HAVE" type of item for anyone with an I-pod. The price is Phenomenal for such a necessary accessory for any I-pod Nano. I'm very pleased with this product, and the charging time is rather quick. I would appreciate a "Fully-Charged" indicator lamp that can be seen from a distance, to make aware of a full charge, and is ready to be UN-plugged. I would imagine that it'd be a bit extra in cost for such a feature, but I for one, would be willing to pay for it. As long as it isn't an "exorbitant increase", that is. Again, all and all, a pretty good, and necessary product for anyone owning an I-Pod. Too Redundant? Sorry....
