Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Hawking HWU8DD Hi-Gain USB Wireless-G Dish Adapter

Customer Review: Good product but not for medal buildings
Summary: 4 Stars

I got the hawking HWU8DD because I was living in our shop. The main house was about 300 feet or more away. I couldn't get any internet so by buying this I was sure that I would work. Well it didn't. Let me explain. I was trying to go through two walls with one wall that had medal on it. so what I have had to do is buy an another halwking for our router in the house and I had to stick the Hi-gain one out the window. Then I was able to pick up about 2 bars of strength. So if this what what you are thinking about doing forget it. The best way to go is to buy a Hawking that is meant to go outside.

Other than that it works great. I was able to pick up my neighbors singnul a mile away. It just doesn't go through medal. Hope this helps.

Customer Review: Hawking Hi-Gain USB Wifi Adapter
Summary: 5 Stars

Hawking HWU8DD Hi-Gain USB Wireless-G Dish Adapter

This external wifi receiver with hi-gain antenna works superb. I work at SFO Airport in United Airlines Operations. We are on the ramp level right below the passenger terminal. Upstairs in the terminal is a T-Mobile Hotspot, available throughout the entire terminal. Downstairs I am just on the fringe of the signal. My internal wifi receiver in my notebook pc does not receive the signal because it is too weak. The Hawking Hi-Gain Wifi antenna/receiver picks up the siganl just fine, with 2 bars out of five. Does exactly what I wanted when I ordered the item.

Customer Review: Good Product
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered the product in order to be able to receive a wireless signal on my laptop from my home network in an outlying craft room in our house, where previously I had only been able to get an weak intermittant signal. The product installed easily, using the installation CD. I have not used the accompanying Network Finder software. The antenna boosted the signal two or times from what it had been and I was able to receive signals from other networks that I hadn't been able to previously. The only shortfall, is that the dish antenna seems fragile, cannot rotate 360 degrees, and it does not fold down, so transportation without of the original box might be risky. I am generally vary satisified with the product.

Customer Review: Succeeded where others failed
Summary: 4 Stars

I had one computer just out of range of my FIOS Actiontech router. I've tried many internal and external adapters. None have been able to even pick up the signal.
Without holding out much hope, I set up the HWU8DD and installed the software. It was pretty easy. Reading the tips others have posted helped.
The signal strength isn't great but it does work. I let it run all day without any problems. With a little experimenting on placement I'll probably be able to get a stronger signal. I do not plan on moving the antenna around once I find the perfect spot so its fragility is not an issue for me.
So far so good. Hopefully it will remain problem free for years to come.

Customer Review: Wow!
Summary: 5 Stars

Main internet cable (Comcast) connection is on main floor (colonial home), we can easily get very good wireless connections from anywhere inside or outside the home, EXCEPT the basement, where it is dismal at best, (1.0 at its' worst up to 18 mbps at its' best). After reading recommendations & reviews, I purchased the Hawkins HWU8DD, expecting a half-way decent connection, at least good enough for the kids casual surfing. Was I wrong. The connection went all the way to 54.0 mbps. FYI: The main cable internet line goes through a computer with Vista and the one I hooked up the Hawkings to runs on XP. Set up was virtually painless and completed in less than 5 minutes. I am so impressed!
