Customer Review: best wireless "card" ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got this in the mail. It took 20 minutes for me to install. It wouldn't take near that long had my computer's cd reading abilities not become compromised a while back. However, a single search on the Hawking website gave a downloadable copy of the cd that works the exact same as the provided cd. Great support. So for ease of instillation, this gets 5 stars. Then for its use, all I had to do was select the internet I wanted and connect. 5 stars for ease of use. Now on to the internet itself...
This product is brilliant. I'm not sure how far away from the modem I am but the signal I'm getting now is giving my laptop faster internet than it has ever seen. Before, my signal would never give me anything higher than 11 Mbps and often sat at 1 or wasn't there at all. Now I have a full signal with great speed. I notice my neighbor's signals are also showing up with around 60% strength. All the houses here sit on over an acre of land and I'm getting good signals from two houses away. That should tell you something about this things range ability.
So final line: this is worth every penny. I now have internet that works with amazing speed and is reliable. I would recommend this product to anyone who has bad signal problems.

Customer Review: A Good Product, But Not For 64-bit Systems
Summary: 4 Stars

The software was easy to install. However the documentation is sadly out-of-date and does not show the current windows. I could not get the unit to find any networks at all, and all the frames that it received had CRC errors, so I suspected a hardware problem and returned the unit to Hawking, getting a new unit in return.

The new unit exhibited the same problems, so I began to suspect software / configuration problems, rather than bad hardware. This led me to boot into Windows Vista 32-bit (I regularly use Vista 64-bit), where I installed the software. I now was able to see a large number of networks (far more than I ever saw with my Intel WiFi unit), and after some fiddling I was able to reliably connect to my apartment complex's WiFi.

The Hawking unit works well and I am happy with it, but the software is complex, and the documentation is very poor. Novice users may have problems. For more sophisticated users, I have no hesitations about recommending this unit.

But don't get it if you only have 64-bit versions of Windows 7 or Vista. (Although Hawking has promised to look into this bug for me - they may eventually fix it.)

Customer Review: Works like a charm!

I bought the Hawking 300N Range Extender to replace a Linksys Wireless-G Range Extender. To provide some background, I had bought the Linksys from Fry's about 6-months ago, and after an excruciatingly difficult setup...(although I work in Info Technology industry)...I was able to get it installed. The Linksys started breaking down after 6-months, and required a reboot/reset....unplug, then plug back into the wall....multiple times a day. Interestingly, I called Fry's and they acknowledged getting multiple returns on the Linksys Wireless-G Range Extender. They said the BEST one to get is the Hawking 300N Range Extender, because they never get those returned. In fact, they couldn't keep them in stock. I ended up buying one on Amazon. This was the easiest product set-up I've ever seen. After opening the box - with the quick installation guide, and the install wizard - the entire set-up process was complete within 15-minutes!! The Hawking 300N Range Extender works great and provides a stronger signal than the Linksys Range Extender. For what it's worth...I have Verizon Fios Broadband Internet...and the Hawking works great with the Verizon Broadband Router.

Customer Review: Works Amazing, Does what is advertised

So i recently haven't been able to get decent Wireless- 801.11-N reception in my apartment with my iMac (dual core) due to distance and walls. I read all the previous reviews on this site and thought i would give this a try. This item is by far and wide the best adapter i have ever used. It gets far better reception and has transmission speeds that are far above and beyond the Airport adapter that came standard in my iMac. I feel like i'm using an ethernet cable!!! I can stream video no problem and surfing the web, which used to be slow, and a total chore using my built-in Airport card, is effortless.

That being said I only have a couple gripes about this device. I do have to re-enter my wireless access code to my router everytime i restart my computer. Also, i have a Lenovo Thinkpad from work that i like to use this with, however, the USB drive on it doesn't appear to able to power this device (i'm not sure this is a Hawking problem; but i would recommend taking caution before trying to hook up a 2-3 year old laptop with this thing)

Overall, great experience, and 4 stars!

Customer Review: Wasn't what I needed
Summary: 2 Stars

I have a new laptop, with Windows Vista, and I researched Hawkings website, and found this dish adapter that said for windows. I got it, downloaded it, and it wouldn't let me find a source 30 feet from me. It locked on a source that had 10% signal, the source 30 feet away was running constistly 55-60%, and I could use it.

I called Hawkings tech support, and after 25 minutes on the phone with someone I couldn't understand, I was told after getting angry with her, that this wasn't what I needed for my Vista. This was after I told her minutes were an issue because I was using my cell phone.

She told me to contact Amazon, and return it and suggested another Hawkings product. It is an adapter with an upgradable antenna, so I'll see if that works.

Not happy with Hawkings, support tech, but am willing to try one more time with a new kind of adapter.

Amazon didn't charge me return shipping, so it was okay there.
