I bought this item to take out on the patio to have music in my small backyard. It IS quite portable - light enough to even tuck in a suitcase for travel - but I can't get enough volume on it to fully enjoy it with ambient noise outside. Speakers feedback and make a deep noise when turned up too high. I have also had it randomly lose volume on its own - not sure if it's power surges or what causes that. I have also used the unit for a little background music in the house, but the volume is once again an issue to really enjoy. Probably better off with something more powerful, except possibly the hotel room idea...Customer Review: Great Sound and Value

This will be a very short review based solely on my experience with this item. I own the iPod nano 4th gen. touch and this speaker works perfectly with it. It charges well, the sound is very good (not as loud as I might like, but very good for just listening in a single room) with only a little buzzing noise when put on the loudest volume. I haven't used it outside of the house and have not used the remote that comes with it, but for simply using it as a speaker in one's house it works very well as both a charger and a speaker. Excellent sound for the price. I highly recommend this product. Also has a very cool look.Customer Review: as good as the reviews suggested

OK, so I just got this, so I have no idea about the durability. But I can say this: it fills a room with nice sound. As has been said before, everything in it's perspective. It's a small speaker system playing off of an ipod, so don't raise the bar too high - but given that, I'm very pleased with the performance.
And yes, as others have pointed out, despite the lack of printed proof, it does come with an AC adapter. And it does charge both a 30GB and an 80GB Classic ipod.
The remote is a nice featue, but so small, I can't imagine it not getting lost soon. Not a real detriment.

This speaker was more than I expected. Because it was to be used with an IPOD when we travel and also in places with no "plug-in" option, it needed to be light weight and small enough to fit in carry-on luggage. This speaker was suggested in the Apple store... and it is great. Easy to operate (four batteries, an on-off switch, and volume buttons) and incredible sound! This was a Christmas present for my husband and he loves it! I looked at Bose first, but their "portable/mobile" speaker system weighed a lot and also took up a lot of room. This speaker has surprisingly good sound (for its size) for most songs. However for some songs, there is an annoying bass resonance that heavily distorts the sound.
For most Rock songs, it will be fine, but don't expect this to be good for classical, piano, or any other music that uses more of the spectrum. It will also sound bad for Rock songs that feature a bass guitar playing near the top of its range.
I like that JBL included the remote and a carrying case. It works great as an iPod dock. It sounds much better than my laptop's built in speakers.
