Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBL On Stage Micro Portable Speaker Dock for iPod (Black)Customer Review: How'd they do it? Summary: 5 Stars
How'd they do it....how'd they get all that sound from such a little set of speakers? I was looking for a docking station / boom box for my shop to replace a Sony CD boombox because I've just discovered the world of iPod (ok an old guy here and a bit behind the times). I bought an iPod Touch 3rd generation and downloaded all of my CD's, pretty handy but just didn't care for the earphones while I worked. I was told to try one of these units and brought it home to give it a try..... simply amazing! It finally found it's way out to the shop yesterday from my den and I could hear it clearly while working throughout the shop and also a distance outside the shop in the yard. The key word there is "clearly". I went and bought a second one today for my den (goodbye a much larger Kenwood shelf system and fumbling through a bookcase of CD's). This one didn't come with a travel bag that some people mention but has an AC adapter. Some also mention theirs using AA batteries while mine uses 4 AAA batteries and mine only had one docking station adapter that didn't fit the iPod Touch but it still fits the slot regardless and works flawlessly. I'm sorry I don't know more about base, treble and distortion and things of that nature but I know what sounds good and clear and reproduces the sound very respectably and this little guy does it. Period.
Customer Review: Excellent sound quality, but remote does not work with latest iPods Summary: 4 Stars
I got the JBL OnStage Micro from a national chain when they offered it at a discount price. Like anything from JBL, the sound quality is excellent and this is a very well-built, hefty and durable piece of equipment. I am writing this review to clarify a couple of points made in these reviews:
1.Unfortunately the design predates the latest iPods and the remote does not fully work with my iPod Touch 3G. The volume and mute buttons are functional, but the navigation buttons do not work. This is fine by me, but I just wanted to let other users of recent iPods to be aware it since these reviews do not make it clear.
2.Another area of confusion in these reviews is the AC adapter. My JBL OnStage Micro has a "v2" model as noted in the sticker at the back of the product, and the packages DOES include an AC adapter. It could perhaps be that earlier versions of the product did not have the adapter, but the ones on the shelves now certainly do.
Overall, I highly recommend this if you have an older iPod or don't care about the functionality of the navigation buttons; and want excellent sound quality at a reasonable price.
Customer Review: A useless purchase Summary: 1 Stars
This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made. When it works, the sound quality is not at all bad for size and price. However, it often fails to work. The remote control works only intermittently and is very balky. The unit does not charge my iPod when it is plugged in as was advertised. Frequently and unexpectedly the unit will emit a very loud buzz, which is much louder than the sound of the music, and this does not stop until I turn the unit off. I tried to sort out these problems by calling the manufacturer and I was connected to some people who, God bless them, spoke English in a way that I had difficulty understanding. They had a hard time understanding me as well, because multiple phone calls were not able to resolve any of the problems. I finally given the phone number of someone in the U. S. who sent me a replacement. The replacement had the same problems as the original. I will never do business with this company again. Their equipment does not work as advertised and customer service is excruciatingly slow and complicated. Despite all the time I put into trying to get this unit to work properly, it has not improved.
Customer Review: Amazing sound from this little machine! Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE my iPod Nano, but the most frustrating part was only being able to listen to it with those ear-itating ;) ear buds, so I started to search for a speaker system to plug the iPod into...I had used one that was also a clock radio while on vacation last year, but I only really wanted a speaker to use in any room, take on vacation, etc. I stumbled on this little gem and decided to put it on my Christmas wish list...what a great decision! I opened it right away, because the family was on vacation in a hotel room for Christmas week and we desparately needed some holiday tunes. I had downloaded 10 albums on the iPod and after a simple and fast set up of the speaker (unwound the electrical cord & plugged it in!), we had Christmas music serenading us. We were all amazed at the deep, round tone this little thing belted out...and we barely had the volume turned up very high. The remote was a nice surprise, too, so we didn't have to keep going over to the speaker to adjust anything. I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone that wants a solid, portable iPod speaker system with great sound.
Customer Review: Love this little thing! Works for iPod Touch! Summary: 5 Stars
I was slightly hesitant to buy this for my new iPod Touch after hearing some complaints. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but wanted the JBL quality that I love. I have a JBL Home Theater system that I can't get enough of so my expectations were high (plus I'm a picky person). I bought this primarily thinking I would use it in my home gym room. I like to blast my workout music and I've yet to find a pair of headphones I like to use for working out with my iPod. So a speaker system was the way to go. The requirements were that it had to: A. Sound good when the volume is way up; and B. Be able to blast over the noise of me running on a very loud treadmill. It worked great on both counts! I love the remote feature...I keep the remote on my treadmill and can use it to skip songs that I don't want to hear, etc. The bag that it comes with is great for hauling it around and protecting it. I would not hesitate to buy this if you have any doubts on it's quality or performance capabilities (particularly pertaining to it's use in conjunction with an iPod Touch).
