Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cool Lift

Customer Review: Simple, functional, great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had my "cool lift" for about a week, and it works beautifully. It's a simple foam pad that lifts the back of your laptop off the desk surface, requiring less work by your machine's cooling fan (ergo longer battery life if you're portable). My Toshiba has a hot spot under my left wrist, and the lift has improved that dramatically. The added benefit is a comfortable typing angle on a table or desk (I'm not sure why another reviewer thought this was for your lap [different product - see lap desk], or why they would be placing their laptop on a slanted surface and expecting this item to hold it in place [duh]). The product is smaller than your laptop, but offers solid support with virtually no "give" as you work. Finally, it's small size also allows you to throw it in the briefcase or backpack without sacrificing a lot of room.

I notice there are currently two offerings of this same product from amazon.com at two different price points. One listing adds four bucks to the price and offers FREE Super Saver shipping. This would be the best way to go if you're looking for a deal, as the shipping from Handstands is six and a half bucks.

Customer Review: It Works But...
Summary: 3 Stars

The product does work which is why I gave it a 3 but I do have some complaints...

1. If I didn't have a lap table with a lip on it the laptop could slip off of this item. I think it should be made out of rubber instead of the foam. Also, a lip on the bottom end of it would be much better.
2. The bottom of the product is smooth and could slide down a tilted table causing your laptop to crash to the floor. How likely, probably not very but your laptop could tumble. (Say if you had it on a lap table and bent down slightly to pick up a pencil... bye bye computer) I think using rubber and texturizing this product would help immensely with the slipage.
3. Definitely would not work for those that want to use their laptops directly on their laps.
4. I have a 15" laptop and it is quite a bit smaller than my laptop. Could be at least 4" wider.
5. Partially covers the one air vent on the bottom of my laptop.

The basic concept does work. So, it really is just a matter of I got what I paid for. Next time I'll pay a few extra bucks for a more detailed laptop lifter.

Customer Review: Cool Lift is simple and does cool computer
Summary: 4 Stars

Just as title says it is simple and it does cool the computer. It is a simple foam lift that props up the computer to get it off the surface so it can get a better airflow. It works for me, my Toshiba Satellite would sometimes turn itself off due to thermal overload. Now it is noticeably cooler to the touch and I don't have a problem anymore. It also angles the laptop 8 degrees (angle) and makes it more easy to see the keyboard as well as putting the screen a little higher (2 in.) for better viewing. It's just basic but it gets the job done without all the fans and lights and whistles that some other coolers offer. I'll bet it cost all of 3 cents to make but the price when I got it was under $7 so I feel Okay about that. I haven't had any problem with the laptop slipping off the pad and falling as others have noted but I'm not too randy with my computer, it sits there just fine. It's not good for holding on your lap but works nice on a table as I use it. I accidentally ordered two so I'll give one to someone and ask them to review it at a later date. I may be less picky than others.

Customer Review: Nifty little product that actually works.
Summary: 5 Stars

At first glance, I was somewhat dissapointed by the size and weight of the cool lift. I guests I was expecting something as large as my laptop. After using it for several weeks, I must say I'm very satisfied with the performance and construction. The angle the cool lift creates makes the keyboard much more comfortable to type and allows for a lot of airflow, keeping my laptop much cooler than before. I can tell because I don't hear the cpu fan running at jet engine mode anymore.

I used to put my laptop on dvd cases (similar effect), but started looking for something more stable when my notebook slipped off causing me concern about shock to the hard drive. Luckily I found the Handstand cool lift on amazon - great price btw, and it does exactly what I wanted. This is a very lightweight and compact unit making it convenient for travel. If you have a laptop, you should definitely pick up one of these. It'll help keep your notebook cooler and the more comfortable keyboard angle alone is worth it.

Customer Review: Super Cheap & Super Cool(ed)
Summary: 5 Stars

I love it. It's low tech. It does the job. That about says it all.

OK, some people need more information to be convinced, so here is the deal (and golly it is a good deal too!) I have gone through three, count them, three USB powered cooling fans for my laptop. After spending roughly $65 dollars on these one-year-losers, I decided to try out this low-tech option. To my amazement, it works. My lap top stays cooler, and my keyboard is lifted to a more comfortable angle. Sweet.

Do not spend your money on anything else. Really. Yes it is smaller than the size of a laptop, but it has always held mine securely, even when lounging on a Sunday morning with my lap desk and in my jammies. It is light weight, requires no power, and is VERY sturdy. If you really want to spend $20-30 on a USB cooler, crystal-filled mat, or gel mat, go right ahead, but you will be wasting some bucks. This is one low-tech gadget that does the job better and cheaper.
