Customer Review: Works with Mac, kinda'...

I ordered this product when I saw that it works on Apple. I have a Miglia, which is great, but it's SD.
The WinTV does work, sort of, but I only get 6 stations, and the ones that I get are a little jerky, stuttery, and suffer from macro-blocking quite often. This is not due to lack of power...I have a G5 2 GHZ dual processor with 4 GB RAM. I'm not sure, but it may be due to weak ATSC signal strength, although I tend not to believe that as I am only a few miles from Albany NY, but who knows.
Anyway, it's just a little too much of a sacrifice to cut all of my cable channels in order to get the very few HD ones that I get.
I should say that the ones that do come in clearly are incredible...if I could get say 10 or there abouts in like those couple, this would get 5 stars.

I don't own a traditional tv, but I wanted to be able watch football games on Sunday on the basic channels- CBS ABC NBC Fox. This performs the job quite well. It took me no longer than 20 minutes to install and scan for channels and be up and running. It also found a few HD channels, which is a nice bonus, but my primary concern was the basic channels for sports- and in that this delivers.
I first purchased the Sabrent TV-USBHD Dual ATSC & Digital HDTV and all it could find was some foreign language channels and local access- needless to say I was unsatisfied and returned it for the Hauppauge, which I am now happy with.
It's also very easy to record TV using the software. The timer for recording makes it easy to record when you're away.

This is a great product!!! The ASTC channels (all 6 of them in my area) come in crisp and clear!! on my laptop. I also use satellite...Perfect as well! As for the OS I use this on: Vista Home Premium & Vista Ultimate.
Installation is a breeze as long as you disregard the CD it comes with and download the drivers and Media Center encoders directly from the manufacturer's web site... I have always used Hauppauge. Have one in my desktop that has lasted through the lifespan of 3 different computers...7+ years...
Cannot beat Amazon's price!!
PS Most of the bad reviews in my opinion are from:
a. Improper installation
b. Poor screen resolution to begin with
c. PC performance issues

I got this for around $60 with a [...] rebate and would recommend if you get the rebate. Just got a Slingbox Pro, so the jury is out on whether the Slingbox makes this obsolete. I've used it twice on the road and do not recommend unless you've got a decent laptop. I've used it to pull a news segment from my DISH PVR to a MPEG file but haven't tried it with large recordings on DISH PVR. I also get the impression that this thing makes HUGE files compared to other alternatives.
If you get it for less than [...], it may be a good novelty item for laptops. My impression is that technology will soon come out with something (probably more expensive) better. Again, if you need something on the cheap that is reasonable quality, get it.

I purchased this for use with my XP Media Center 2005 machine to pick up Digital TV (DTV) over the air signals only - I was not interested in analog TV or Cable use.
Driver installation was confusing but I muddled through it. I have not been able to get the proprietary WinTV software working. I was, however, able to download and install the hardware driver and the Media Center encoder update use Media Center to watch TV - all using the included stubby antenna (which, by the way, telescopes).
Because of the difficulty I had with getting the drivers and software loaded, I would recommend this product only to the technically adept. Novices and Intermediates will be thoroughly confused by the software installation.
