Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Etón FR160B Microlink Self-Powered AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio with Flashlight, Solar Power and Cell Phone Charger (Black)Customer Review: not for iphone4 or 3gs Summary: 4 Stars
This is very good for the radio (sound clear) and flashlight, but it will not charge the iphone 4 or ipad. The manufacturer said "The FR160, FR360 and FR600 can't charge the iPad or the iPhone 3GS or 4G, because it was designed before they were and cannot deliver the current needed. Only our models RAPTOR and the TurboDyne Series can charge these devices. See this web site: [...]
The description on Amazon needs to be changed as it is somewhat misleading.
But for an emergency radio or flashlight, it is excellent. You get a long usage time for the amount of time you crank.
Customer Review: Cell Phone USB Charger is Worthless Summary: 1 Stars
Bought this radio primarily as an emergency way to charge a cell phone. I tried cranking fast, slow and everything in between on the "Cell" setting and the charging indicator on my Motorola phone never came on. Further, their support is a joke. I got the radio on Saturday and after unsuccessfully trying to charge my cell I decided to call support. They were closed. That was ok. So I called again Monday at 9:30 am eastern. Still closed, just going to return the thing now.
Do not buy this if you wish to charge a cell phone. Its a waste of time and effort.
Customer Review: Great emergency device! Summary: 5 Stars
This weather radio will definitely come in handy during an emergency. It picks up the weather and NOAA stations wonderfully, the light is very bright, and the overall quality is great. I especially like the USB port to charge devices. I tested it and it started to charge my phone within 2 minutes. It takes a little while if you use the hand crank, but if you are in an emergency what choice do you have? I would be more than willing to rely on the solar power and hand crank to be able to power up my phone. I love it.
Customer Review: One Stop Shop Summary: 4 Stars
This radio came charged up from the factory so I don't know battery life but I really like the features. The weather band comes in just fine and between the crank and solar power turning this thing on should never be a problem. I would like to test it out by charging a blackberry or my kindle. I haven't done that yet but will update this review once I do. Initial impressions are this is a great set of features and nothing was a disappointment.
Customer Review: Great addition for any emergency kit. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my "Go Bag/Emergency Kit" and I am very happy with its performance. The one feature that I hane not yet tested is the USB recharging plug, though I suspect it will work fine as long as the battery in the radio has been charged before anything is pluged in. I would not recommend using the hand crank to charge a phone because the generators in these devices are typically unregulated and prone to power surges and may fry you phone.
