Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Etón FR160B Microlink Self-Powered AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio with Flashlight, Solar Power and Cell Phone Charger (Black)Customer Review: Great little radio Summary: 5 Stars
Exceeded expectations. Have been using this in my car listening to the radio for the last 2 weeks. Solar keeps it going for at least 2 hours without sun, the length of my trip in to town, around town then home. Flashlight is perfectly adequate for emergency purposes and has a tap on feature for signaling (half depress). Best thing for me is the ability to recharge other things with the USB and crank. I camp out a lot and have a fantastic mapping feature on my iPhone. It won't charge the phone directly but will charge the Gum Plus battery pack which in turn charges the iPhone. Charges my wife's old Nokia directly. Highly recommend it for the price, great little unit.
Customer Review: Good at what it is Summary: 4 Stars
I really like this little guy a lot, but ended up returning it because it's not really great for charging things, and that's what I got it for in the first place. You have to crank at "2 rotations/sec" (according to the instructions) in order to charge your electronics. It will not charge things on its own battery or solar power--YOU MUST CRANK. And it's sort of hard to gauge how fast two rotations/sec is. It definitely works, though, and I like the option to have crank power when it's not sunny out. The flashlight's pretty bright, too, and the radio is easy to tune (yes, dial, not digital) and gets good reception even in my cell-signal-blocking apartment.
Customer Review: two problems Summary: 4 Stars
There were two problems with this product: never knowing when or when not the solar panel is actually doing anything, and the instruction manual was very short and explained literaly nothing. The hand crank works very well and charges a cell phone well i've tested it on an iphone 3g and a mytouch. The radio has pretty good speakers. One of the few things the instruction manual did say is that when you stop cranking it to charge your phone, you must pause for a specific amount of time, otherwise yoir battery will be damaged in your phone. A great product overall, I bought it for my techy brother and he absolutely loved it, perfect for 2012!!! haha
Customer Review: Close Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this unit to gather weather information when I lose power.
Everything to work okay the manufacture is a little boastful about how
long you crank vs how long the battery lasts. I also wish there was a
120volt to DC whatever the battery voltage is. To have this charged up
from the git go and crank power when you lose battery would make this
unit a 5 star product. I will be modifing my unit to do just that. Yeah
I know no warranty but it work the way I want it to. It will take from
being used as an emergeny weather radio to a weather radio I use all the
time.
Customer Review: small size makes cranking a problem Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this for emergency situations and power outages. The radio works fine with all 3 bands, AM/FM/weather. The flashlight is more than sufficient for my needs. The solar charging is very convenient. Battery life looks good. I've used the radio for hours at a time along with the flashlight without running the battery dry.
Just one problem. I've got large hands. This unit is relatively small. Holding it and cranking isn't easy for me. I hope I never need to crank it to charge a cell phone as the manual indicates that 10 to 15 minutes of cranking may result in 1 or more minutes of talk time.
