Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Etón FR160B Microlink Self-Powered AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio with Flashlight, Solar Power and Cell Phone Charger (Black)Customer Review: emergency radio Summary: 3 Stars
This is an ok product for what it is. It doesn't come with an AC adapter but one is available on their website. The product discription says it comes with an owner's manual, but it DOES NOT. The Quick Start Guide (such as it is) isn't obvious at first; I finally found it by opening the fold-over card part of the packaging. It says "for full features, please visit [their website] for complete owner's manual and warranty information". I just finished visiting the site and the owner's manual was no where to be found. The Quick Start Guide now lies in the trash bin as it is worthless. The QSG does show how to hook up the USB part of the cell phone charging feature. I suppose now I'll have to hunt down the cables necessary to work with the cell phones my wife and myself have. Over all an ok product, but sorely lacking in helpful instructions.
Customer Review: Cheap and high quality emergency radio Summary: 5 Stars
This radio is a great little investment. It does exactly everything it states it should. On a 60 second crank I got hours of play. I ran the radio completely dead by leaving the light on and the radio playing at half column. I let the radio play like this with the light on for at least an hour before it went dead. I then put it out in the sun and let it charge with the solar charger for about four hours and then turned the radio on and let it play for only about an hour and then just didn't want to complete the experiment. I am very pleased with this radio. 60 seconds of cranking for hours of play is very reasonable. Letting it charge out in the sun and getting hours of play is very reasonable. I have other brands like this in the past that you would crank for 5 to 10 and get maybe 10 minutes of play.
Customer Review: Good sound for a little thing Summary: 5 Stars
We just received our Eton FR160 and it does all it says it does. We took it out of the box, gave it a few cranks, and the flashlight immediately lit up. Then we perched it on the window sill and it was a cloudy day, but the radio ran for at least 3 hours on it's own, until I turned it off. Who knows how long it would run on barely any sun. The sound from this little radio is very good for a small device. I hooked up my USB cable to my cell phone and gave it a few cranks and could see the charging bar on my phone moving, it works well. Then I plugged my Ipod in and gave it a few cranks, it works and could see the charging signal! I have to experiment to see what other devices I'll be able to charge with this. This is definitely part of our Emergency/Survival gear. Very pleased with Eton!
Customer Review: I love this radio! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the sweetest little radio!I bought it based on the design and my love for vintage radio. It works great and it's total modern! The hand crank is absolutely successful in creating continuous play. I bought it for the days that I decided to go to the park or out on a watercolor expedition, or I should say the days that I want to be able to hear things happening around me and not music blasting into my ears from my MP3 player. The speaker works really well, and can get loud enough for a small beach party. The light is super bright and a nice touch. That will be good for those moments I need to search inside a bag or down a rustic path. I just love this portable radio and I can't wait to take it with me to the beach, on vacation, or just anywhere! Thanks Eton for the sweet product!
Customer Review: A Satisfying Product Summary: 4 Stars
Overall, this is a good product. It functions as it is suppose to. I sometimes use it as a radio for work since I am not allowed to listen to anything using my computer. However, if you don't want to crank it every 10 mintues, I suggest getting a radio that plugs into the wall. The cell phone charging function is kind of annoying since it takes over 10 minutes of cranking to receive a minute of talk time. I guess that is better than nothing during an actual emergency if you happen to end up with no cell phone charge. All of my coworkers and friends are impressed with this crank radio and often ask me where I bought it. It is a nice conversation piece during a non-emergency! I recommend buying this device or something similar to prepare yourself for a possible emergency.
