Customer Review: A good addition to my zombie preperation kit

I've had some time to really test out all the functionality on this product. As far as the radio and flashlight functionality, the combination of the hand crank and the solar panel seem to do a good job of powering the device. I usually just crank the crank a few times and then I've been able to listen to the radio few at least a half hour. I haven't had a chance to try to run the charge all the way down and then try to see how many cranks or hours of solar power charging it takes to be operational again, but I would like to know some numbers on that as well. As far as the charging functionality, I was a bit disappointed. Using the USB charging cord I was only able to get a charging status on my iPhone 4 when I was continuously turning the hand crank. Whatever output the battery/capacitor held in the device was not enough to hold a charging status on my phone without my continuous cranking. I was sort of hoping the solar power would be able to store up enough to get a little bit of charging time without cranking. (I don't want to be making noise by cranking the crank if zombies are near!) Otherwise I guess during an emergency (if you happened to have the charging cable with you) the cranking could keep you occupied, but it your arm would sure be muscular by the time you charged up your device!
On another note, the speaker's can get decently loud, enough to hear over something loud if your nearby it or enough for a small group to listen to news reports. Its very easy to use, and seems pretty sturdy. I'd bet I could drop it a few good times before it breaks, not that I have tried. I wonder how it resists water. It has a nice rubber/waxy coating on the hard plastic, but water looks like it could still do some damage if it got near the cracks or the speaker. Either way I haven't tested that either.
Overall, this seemed to be a good buy for the basic functionality and I'll be keeping mine nearby for sure.
