Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin iTalk Pro - Microphone

Customer Review: For the money, this little guy works A-OK
Summary: 4 Stars

I use this to record basic lyrics/melodies on the piano so I won't forget them. I've noticed the microphone is very sensitive and if the pitch changes there is a small electronic pulse (seemingly the microphone adjusting to the pitch?). Guess you can't expect expert recording :) But the sound is very clear otherwise, and it serves the purpose I need it to--very easy to use, clear recording, small enough to carry around with me everywhere. And for the money, it just can't be beat. I researched a lot of reviews on these little iPod recording things before deciding on this one, and all the reviews seemed to point this way.

Customer Review: OK, but messes with my nano
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchases the italk for recording messages and lectures. It does an excellent job of recording in high qulaity sound. In fact, it's hard to believe how clear it records. However, even though it was advertized to work with the 2nd generation nanos (on the manufacturers website), it messes with my nano, every time I use it, making do various strange things like quickly running through a play list without ever playing a song, playing songs that aren't what is showing in the display, freezing the ipod, and freezing on a dead screen. I think it would be an awesome microphone if it wouldn't mess with my hardware.

Customer Review: iTalk is great
Summary: 5 Stars

The Griffith iTalk Pro is super. It's a plug and go sort of thing, and I used correctly and successfully the first time I tried. The sound quality was amazing, really beyond what I expected. It worked perfectly inside my breast pocket with the default settings that came when it arrived, no adjustment needed. I have used it every day through a fifteen-week school term and it needs a charge about 1 hour after giving a two-hour lecture. I would buy this for twice what I paid and feel good about it. Compared to other types of mics, this one is the easiest to use, least expensive, and delivers great sound quality.

Customer Review: Almost perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

I do a lot of interviews, so the iTalk has become an essential part of my work life. It does a great job recording audio, with a couple of caveats. Expect the mic to pick up the whir-click of the iPod hard drive, which will keep you from ever getting a perfect recording. Also expect weird static interference to sweep through the recording now and then, particularly if you're using the iTalk near other electronics (like laptops, cell phones, etc.). That would be a problem for me if I were recording audio for broadcast purposes, but since I'm basically using the iTalk to archive interviews, I can live with it.

Customer Review: it's alright
Summary: 1 Stars

bottom line... it works, BUT it'll drain the battery in no time at all, so make sure you battery is charged before you use it because you can't charge it while you are recording. I have also noticed that upon playback there are skips or jumps in the recording. Which kinda sucks if you're recording vital info. You end up getting the point, but you miss a couple of seconds here and there. It's also really quiet on the playback, I had to put it on my home computer and blast the speakers until I could hear it. Wait until it's on sale or until they release something better.
