Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin iTalk Pro - MicrophoneCustomer Review: Griffin Mic OK if settings are right Summary: 3 Stars
Bought the Griffin iTalk Pro - Microphone after trying one of my friends. For $20 it works pretty well. On music ( I record my gigs for my own review) set the sensitivity to LOW GAIN.
Pros- picks up bass well, records in near cd quality (14 bit, 44.1K). Records meetings well.
Cons-automatic gain setting abruptly switches from hi to low and sounds like a bad connection and drop out, not a big deal when recording voice but ruins music.,
No published specs on external mic input jack.
Stereo spread not great, could be better if mics face away from each other a bit.
You have to reset sensitivity every time you use it. Would be nice to just have a switch on the mic.
Customer Review: Pretty good little thing to have Summary: 4 Stars
I am a podcast host and bought the iTalk Pro to carry in case anything went wrong with my portable recording setup. I have used this in interviews and general conversations and was suprised at the quality of the audio from my iPod. Much better than I thought it would be, but in all fairness it was inside, in a conference room sitting on the table between myself and my client appx. 3' away, so I can't attest it's usefulness outdoors.
Came in very handy for this interview and the audio was good enough that I don't think I'll have to clean it up in Garageband very much, if at all, before I put this audio interview on the website I'm building for this client. Nice work Griffin!
Customer Review: My favorite little piece of technology Summary: 5 Stars
I love to record live concerts, post them online either on [...] or a few forums for various bands. I love this recorder, i have a 30 gig ipod video and I think it is awesome for recording concerts. I also record a bunch of legislative hearings, etc. it works awesomely. the only issue is that it REALLY drains your ipod's battery, which made getting the encore of some shows a bit dicey. - you might get a longer recording time if you use the low setting vs the high setting.
totally recommend it for field recordings, or recording a local punk band and burning it on to cd or recording for myspace or facebook. I have used this all over the US, and again, totally recommend it.
Customer Review: a little about Griffin's iTalk Summary: 4 Stars
I really like this thing. It's pretty simple and easy to use; just plug it in and go. My only complaints are these: it does speech easily, but if you sing or play music (which I do) then you get some noticeable distortion, namely popping. Another thing, if you are using a hard drive iPod (like the iPod Classic) the iTalk picks up the sound of the hard drive and such moving around inside the iPod. No such problem when I plugged it into my old Nano, which is a flashdrive type. Even so, I give it 4 stars. Great machine, a nice gadget for anyone, especially college kids and anyone who plays music and has an idea that they want to record quickly and then come back to later.
Customer Review: Blocks headphone output of Nano 2G Summary: 3 Stars
My wife uses it to record short snippets of herself, so that she listen to and correct her pronunciation of some particular words in a foreign language. She is happy with the recording quality, but it blocks the headphone output of iPod Nano 2G (the tall ones with metallic colors, but cannot play video.) I don't know if the full size iPods have their headphone outputs on the top, so it may work better for those, but my wife has to disconnect iTalk before she can listen. Repeating this step after each word recording makes it quite impractical for this purpose. Otherwise it works as promised; the recordings gets transferred to our iTunes automatically.
