Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin RoadTrip FM Transmitter and Car Charger for iPod (Black)

Customer Review: A HUGE downgrade in audio compared to my Kensington FM transmitter.
Summary: 2 Stars

I got this dock expecting that:

a. it would be superior (in terms of sound quality)to my current Kensington FM transmitter dock and

b. that the creadle would be a nice upgrade from the non cradle set up on my Kensington set up.

The moment I set it up I was in for a terrible shock! The sound was absolutely horrible in the Washington DC area with plenty of hiss and generally poor sound quality. The Kensington that so far sounded OK, sounded great after the Griffen Roadtrip. The sound on this is so bad that I simply tossed the cradle into the trash can, since returning stuff on Amazon market place is no walk in the park! So there was $25 completely and absolutely wasted. I did use the little mini stereo jack and the FM transmitter does an OK job on my PC for listening music in my patio.

The cradle itself was nice and had it worked I would have been happy. However since the FM transmitter was so bad, I would never ever reccommend this product to anyone.

Customer Review: RoadTrip This . . .
Summary: 3 Stars

The Roadtrip is a quality product that functions as one would expect for the price. Knowing that ipod to tape player units certainly have better consistency, fidelity, and longevity...I choose the roadtrip anyway. Check it out . . .
1) It charge the iPod . . . which means it can play forever!
2) It's powerful enough to overpower most non-major radiostations
3) Digital display makes sure you know exactly where to tune
4) You can change the freuency to any imaginable recievable FM frequency

the bad . . .
1) It needs your car A/C adapter to function and/or be hooked through your computer's USB port . . . so no using this bad boy on the job with the boom box etc.
2) It's definitely an addition to audio system in your car in terms of size... it kind of looks like an alien arm extending out of the console.
3) You can't put a gel cover on your ipod because then it doesn't fit in the bracket which holds the ipod in place. Major bummer.

Customer Review: Does the job.
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had no problems that other previous reviewers have had in the transmitter extention from the lighter outlet "slipping" and moving around. I've had absolutley NO issue with that. The extension is great because this allows my ipod to be at a level where it is SAFE to use when you are driving. No looking down to mess around with the ipod. I have it located just right of the steering wheel.

The sound quality that I get with the transmitter is okay. I do get some static in certain areas. However, this being a FM transmitter, it's a given that if you are in a populated area, the airwaves are going to be populated, therefore giving you the interference of static. If you dont mind the slight decrease in quality of sound, then go get this item. It wont give you the CD quality sound that headphones or the stereo will give you obviously, but you shouldnt be driving with headphones anyway (like some people do):-) It does the job in functionality and ease of use.

Customer Review: Not too bad.
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this because I was tired of listening to my ipod through headphones while I was driving and tired of searching for CD's.

I am pleasantly surprised by this product. I heard mixed reviews from people and was not sure, but I purchased it for around 30.00 w/a special promotion going on, so I figured I wouldn't be out too much if it wasn't that good.

Pro's: keeps ipod charged, it's amazing. It also has two attachments in case you want to extend the length and clearance from things, from the lighter. It has attachments for various ipods.

Con's: some of the music you put on the ipod, may sound fine on the ipod through headphones but through
the radio, some songs are muffled or not as good, but for 30.00, I guess just find a better copy of the song.

Overall, I really like the product and 88.7 and 88.5 seem to be the best channels. Depends on where you are in the world when you are driving though.

Customer Review: Don't waste your money
Summary: 2 Stars

I've given this gadget enough trial and error and am still unhappy with its quality. I have tried it in suburbs, rural no man's land and urban centers (I travel everyday all over the map for work) and it constantly let's me down. I read before that it transmits at a quality somewhere between FM and AM broadcast quality . . . It's definitely closer to AM in my opinion. Bass is totally gargled sounding and high end produces a very annoying mid-range that kills the best of my rock ipod tunes and minimizes all the immensity of Thelonius Monk and other Jazz monsters . . . don't waste your money, unless you enjoy the archaic sound of AM broadcast, which isn't so bad if you're listening to NEWS, but music, uh-uh, this transmitter is abhorable. Maybe there's nothing better out there, it seems like a difficult technology to master, but I guess I'll have to spend some more money in hopes of finding a more dependable transmitter. Thumbs down!
