Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin RoadTrip FM Transmitter and Car Charger for iPod (Black)

Customer Review: Very good product!
Summary: 4 Stars

After lots of shopping, I decided on this transmitter because of the extension leg for the plug in. I have a 2000 Volks Jetta and if you have one of these, you know that the power plug is really recessed in a hole near the gear shift. The extension leg allowed me to get the transmitter lifted up and out of the way of the shifter. It's close, but it works if I don't wrap my whole fist around the gear shift knob (which is unnecessary anyway in this car). It took me a while to find a station that didn't static out on me completely as I drove around in my mountain community but with some fiddling, I found a solid station.

The only reason I didn't give this product FIVE stars is that the support does seem a bit "wobbly" but I have a big iPod so that makes it top heavy. If you DO take your iPod in and out of the car often, you'll need to do it carefully as it fits really tight in the plastic support provided by the transmitter unit.

Worked for me after lots of searching and a reasonable price, I thought especially with Amazon's free shipping! Hope this review helps you make your decision!

Customer Review: Highly Disappointed!

I purchased this product to replace a more expensive, but similar product that broke while packed in my suitcase on an airplane (probably my fault for not packing it well). I opted to buy this as a replacement since it was cheaper and got good reviews, but I have been very disappointed. I guess you get what you pay for. I find this unit to be very cumbersome to use and it intermittently will stop working. Some days it simply won't work at all, and at first I thought the problem was the cigarette lighter in my car so I tested other devices in the cigarette lighter, and they all worked properly. So, I determined the problem is with this device. Also, everytime I go over a bump it simply stops playing music and I have to manually hit the play button on my ipod to get it to start again. And, when I go around a curve sometimes music starts only playing out of the the stereo on one side of my car, and I have to reposition my ipod onto the docking station to get it to play out of all speakers again. After two months of trying to get this product to work properly I have given up and ordered something different.

Customer Review: An OK solution, if your car stereo doesn't offer an integrated solution.

I bought this adaptor, mainly because at the time I had an in-dash unit that didn't offer an accesory to incorporate my iPod to my sources list.

It is a great looking device, easy to use (some people who aren't tech-oriented at all might have some problem to get it working), but all in all, it's simple, stylish, good looking, and does the job.

The Cons for me are basically two: It keeps your iPod in plain sight (and even when you remove your iPod while your car is parked, might tip-off burglars to break into your car and look for your iPod, i.e.) and sometimes while driving over bumps or uneven terrain, the adaptor might come out of the power outlet in the car and that leaves your hearing the "static channel".

It is a good alternative, and should consider price-value relation while purchasing. Expect what you are paying for...if you expect hi-fi sound from your iPod, get yourself a new head-unit with an iPod accesory (I have a Pioneer in-dash DVD player with the Pioneer iPod adaptor, and it's just great!), but then you'll be talking $$$ or even $$$$ instead of $$.

Customer Review: Perfect for the music lover on the go!

I've actually bought three Griffin Technology 4031-RDGC RoadTrip FM Transmitter and Auto Charger & Cradles for the iPod. Two were for gifts, and one for myself and we all love it. It's super easy to use, even for the most technologically challenged. The only thing people might have difficulty with is fitting an iPod mini in tightly, so that it doesn't move around while driving (hint: make sure to have the clip that comes with the original ipod mini box clipped onto the back to have a good fit in the charger/unit). Compared to like products, I've been unable to find an FM transmitter that ALSO charges for as few dollars as this one. I've had mine for over a year now, and it still works great. I barely ever listen to the radio now that I have my iPod always fully charged (thanks to the charging unit!) and ready to go. It's also much safer due to the cradle & charging unit. There's no fumbling around trying to find the ipod or the controls--it's always just right at your fingertips. And, the extra extender makes a perfect fit for SUV's, compact cars, and everything in between!

Customer Review: If you have a cassette, go that route
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this product for my ipod touch & was so very, very disappointed after hearing so many people rave about it. I love the idea of it-- no wires to have dangling in your car & a nice design, but after trying it, I can't tell you how terrible it was to use it. When I first tried it, I noticed a horrible degradation in the sound coming from this over my car radio-- muffled, very thin sound-- pathetic really. Next there was the issue of having it in my car in this area-- it was extremely difficult to find a reliable frequency & when I did finally find one, if the car moved at all, there would be static. Luckily, I have a cassette player in my car so opted to return this & get the Sony cassette adapter-- I have a wire, but the sound is now superb!

I suppose that if you don't have a cassette & really want to use your ipod in your car, this will do, but I would rather just leave the ipod at home at that point.

I gave it 2 stars because it does work (just not well), & some people aren't lucky enough to have a cassette in their car, so they're stuck.
