Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Great for the price! Summary: 4 Stars
This is one of the cheapest prices I have seen (retail) for this product. Normally running $50+ in Best Buy, so $15 was a steal! It's pretty basic, but it's exactly what I needed. Having a Sirius radio in my car that used an FM transmitter I am used to a little static and radio interference which this item is prone to. But if you follow the instructions on how to set it in International mode (Hold the preset/select button until DX/LX flashes and continue to old until US flashes and press +/- to select INT and tune your radio to 87.9 or below if your car can) can eliminate most radio interference. The Stereo mode (LX) is a little noisier than Mono mode (DX) but honestly, when driving on the highway with music playing you really won't notice it that much.
This is a perfect buy for those who do not have an iPod port on there car stereo or an AUX cable. Haven't tested this with the iPod touch yet so I can't really tell if it will charge it. Charges my iPod video just fine though.
Canceling my Sirius account asap since they play the same music over and over again just like free radio. And ever since the merger, they have upped their price and taken away content which is BAD for the consumer (which they have been saying the opposite since the merger). One $15 purchase will save me hundreds over the course of a year. And as far as their exclusive programming, there are 'other' ways to get that.
Customer Review: Good for Audio Books and Magazines Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using this model iTrip almost daily for 11 months. I use it with an iPhone and my 2005 Acura TSX's factory audio system. I really like it for books and magazines, but not for music. Before you buy one, make sure you sample reviews to understand limitations and requirements...
Requirements (from my experience, not from the manufacturer):
- See if you can tune your radio to 87.9 or lower. If you can't, you may find you get too much interference.
- After you buy, look for the Amazon iTrip review with "BEST results" in the title and follow the directions for setting the iTrip up for International Mode with your radio tuned to 87.9 or lower. (It's excellent information, easily found, that doesn't need to be repeated here :)
What I like:
- It was inexpensive.
- I can easily listen to the spoken word while commuting.
- I get very little static. When I do get static, it doesn't last long.
What I don't like:
- This specific iTrip is "for iPods" and cannot charge an iPhone (3G with latest update).
- The sound quality is too poor for music (for my tastes).
- The sound can be completely overridden by the back seat entertainment systems in vehicles near you. (I've had times where I had to listen a SpongeBob episode playing in the Ford SUV next to me until one of us exits the freeway :)

Customer Review: Definitely Worth It Summary: 4 Stars
I only gave it four stars, because nothing is perfect. Set your radio and tuner for 87.9 FM, then set your tuner on LX and INTL and that's it. Crank it up and enjoy.
If you cannot tune in your car radio to 87.9 FM then don't buy this product.
If you can tune your car radio to 87.9 FM then follow these instructions:
(these instructions are similar to a feed back by Eric William)
1) Plug in the iTrip. You Have two buttons - a larger +/- button and a smaller
button "Preset" written on it.
2) Hold down the smaller button for 10 or more seconds. Wait until the display
will flash "DX" or "LX". Use the +/- to change to LX (non stereo mode). Press
the smaller button and the selection is saved.
3) Hold down the smaller button for 10 or more seconds. Wait until the display
changes to "US" Use the +/- to change to INTL mode. Press the smaller button
and the selection is saved.
4) With your iTrip set to LX and INTL now set both the car and the iTrip to 87.9.
Use the iTrip instructions to save this as a preset. Also set one of the
preset buttons on your car radio to 87.9.
5) Turn your iPod and car radio on. Press play on your iPod and enjoy.
The volume on your iPod does not have to be on. Make sure the transmitter is close to the radio.
Customer Review: If you like loud music, DO NOT PURCHASE Summary: 1 Stars
I'm hoping this catches at least one person who is interested in this product, as I was when I purchased it. The system plugs into the bottom of your iPod (which is the same slot where syncing to the computer and charging). You would think that this is great, but there are two key reasons why this design ruins the product.
1.) It eliminates volume control on the iPod. Plugging a device into the headphone jack is the only way you will be able to have your car volume, and iPod volume working simultaneously, allowing more audio volume while in your car.
I have a stock Bose system in my vehicle and the highest volume setting on my car CD player was hardly audible with the front windows down.
2.) This design also drains the battery from your iPod if you leave it hooked up all of the time. One would think that leaving the device charged all the time is the way to go, but as some know this is incorrect. ([...]) --> use this website and its credibility at your own discretion.
This is the real deal with this product, do not be fooled by its low price. Your best bet for an iPod converter is an auxiliary cable if your car stereo supports that...if not a simple cassette adapter works just find with vilume control from the car stereo as well as the iPoid itself.
Hope this review was beneficial to you before your purchase..

Customer Review: Meets the Exacting Standards of a 16 Year-Old Music Fan Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this as a Christmas present for my teenaged daughter. She is a big fan of a number of musical genres, and thus much happier listening to her iPod than to any radio station. Still, she is more on the "appreciation" side of audiophilia than the technical. She was asking for an iPod-FM transmitter, and, after combing through multiple reviews, I settled on this one.
My observations after one month:
1) Ease of use - I was not needed for the setup, and my only role in the installation was pushing the DC charger into the outlet. (It went in fine, but she was worried about breaking it if she pushed too hard).
2) Function - We live in the Greater Seattle metro area, so the electromagnetic spectrum is kind of crowded. Despite this, the device "works great" according to my daughter. She has had no problems with finding a usable frequency or poor sound quality.
3) Form - It actually sits in the between-seat compartment, where her car has a DC outlet. It does not clutter the interior with wires.
4) Issues - Like many who have commented here, I think it is a shame that the device can't also charge the iPod. Still, if that is my only complaint for a piece of electronics equipment that has been otherwise plug-and-play, I feel like it was a good purchase. I am getting one for my car now.
4 stars.
