Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Grace Wifi Radio (ITC-IR1000B)Customer Review: Do Not Buy this Radio Here, the Seller does Not Actually Have It In Stock! Summary: 1 Stars
I read great reviews for this internet radio on CNET and was very excited to find it for sale here on Amazon, even though it is a discontinued model. I ordered it and was dismayed to find that they shipped a different model, which was much more poorly reviewed. Apparently this model was the successor to the Grace ITC-IR1000B, but the sound quality is much worse. So I had to return this radio, go to the UPS store, pay for the return, and hope that the dishonest seller, Apex Suppliers, would refund me the money.
They did offer the refund, and when I alerted them to the dishonesty of what they are doing, they repeatedly contacted me, asking me to remove my negative feedback. I finally told them that I would remove the negative feedback if they would stop listing this item that is discontinued which they were pulling a bait and switch with. They agreed and removed the item, and when I checked back a month later, it was relisted. The seller, Apex Suppliers, is dishonest, manipulative, and a cheat. Do not order this item, because what you will receive is not what you ordered, and you will have a headache on your hands.
Customer Review: Excellent WiFi Receiver Summary: 5 Stars
For those who don't want to wait for the next generation WiFi receivers, try the Grace Internet Radio.
It is very intuitive and easy to set up, and I've found that it handles most Reciva stations very well. I haven't used it yet for Pandora or playing PC files. The reviews here on what to expect were very accurate. The unit also seems to work well on less than full strength Wifi signal.
The provided manuel is brief and well written, be sure to use it when starting up.
You can just plug it in and scan through genre or location to play stations. Or, go online with Reciva and register, select some favorites for 'My Stations' and play them. It's easy to register the radio there too, your radio will give you the information to do so.
Some notes: Use the large knob to scroll (turn right or left) whatever station you want to select, or for configuring, wifi strength, upgrade firmware, or set time, sleep timer etc. When you want to make a selection push in on the large knob.
The radio 'holds' stations very well. And I believe soon 'Clear Channel' stations will be available.
Customer Review: Good radio for casual listening Summary: 4 Stars
I didn't know anyone with an internet radio, but this little radio seemed like a good price so I bought one for my wife for Christmas. We've had it on the kitchen counter for the last couple weeks and it stays on most of the day. The jog dial is easy to use to enter letters and numbers when searching, etc. The screen is easy to read in both low light and full light. Although audiophiles would probably be turned off by the mono sound, I think it sounds great for casual listening. Mostly what we have used it for is the free Pandora service. Once you create a personal account on Pandora.com, you can create new "stations" directly from the radio by searching for an artist or song. When you find the correct artist, the radio creates and saves the new station (e.g. Beatles Radio) and then plays songs by this artist, as well as songs by other artists that play similar music. Evidently, Pandora uses something called the "Music Genome" to determine what other music is comparable. All in all, we've really enjoyed this radio and it's brought great music, both new and old, back into our house.
Customer Review: Terrible Product; Terrible Support Summary: 1 Stars
After a few weeks, the internal power supply in the unit failed. I suppose if you are like me, and leave your computers and peripherals powered on all the time, this radio is not the thing to have. So, it wouldn't power up at all.
Several emails to the seller were finally returned with the message that I should contact the manufacturer directly (gee, who would know). Several emails to the manufacturer were ignored; finally, a request for a receipt and an offer to replace it if I sent it back. But, from the discovery of the power failure to the time the manufacturer offered to take it back was SEVERAL WEEKS.
Operationally, before it failed, I disliked it so in one respect. It offers the user the ability to scan one's disk files of music. Once you point it to your files, it will scan and catalog them. The process can take an hour or more. But, beware, don't power your unit down or it will lose all that information. And, as you try and play your network-stored disk files, there is a very loud click between each song.
Customer Review: Nice Radio, excellent audio. Summary: 5 Stars
Easy setup and great sound!
This is my second wifi radio. The first, an Acoustic Energy, did a fine job at working with my wifi, but the ergonomics (and the fact that it looked like a bedside air purifier), was only slightly better than the poor sound. The Grace wifi, on the other, with it's 4.5 watt amp and rear bass port really brings a richness to the audio that was unexpected, even for me, a dyed-in-the-wool audio snob. I was going to hook the output up to a set of high-end computer speakers, but (aside from missing out on the stereo output), the PC speakers actually sounded worse.
Two minor annoyances: (1) the radio tends to slide backwards when pressing the front buttons, so you need to hold onto the top of the radio while punching the controls, and this leaves (2) fingerprints, everywhere!
Perhaps I should have chose the white version of this radio, because the black model is a fingerprint magnet.
The price is right, the sound is great, the interface (with a little bit of effort) is a joy to use.
