Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Grace Wifi Radio (ITC-IR1000B)Customer Review: Grace internet radio Summary: 1 Stars
I cannot rate the quality because I can not get it work. I don't know if my lack of experience with configuring routers and internet radios was the sole cause of not getting the radio to work but I did spend over (3) hours on phone with Linksys(two calls)and they also were unable to solve the problem. I was not happy with Grace customer service. I called a number of times and always got voice mail. I left one voice message to call back at gave them times that I would be home but never heard back from them.I was able to communicate by email with Grace but was not given much help.A couple times I expressed my desire to speak to a live person but that did not trigger any interest in their calling.
I considered returning radio and did get RGA from distributor who shipped radio. I knew I would have to pay return shipping but I could not get a minimum re-stocking charge if everything was returned in as shipped condition and all packaging and box undamaged. I would have to return it to find out how much I would be charged except that I believed it would not be a 100% refund.
I still have the radio and will spend some time in coming weeks to see if I can figure how to make it work. I had spent around 30 hours tinkering with this before giving up the first time.
Customer Review: Opens you to an Ocean of Music and Radio Broadcasts Summary: 5 Stars
Finally, after years, my timex clock radio died and I had the excuse for a new tabletop clock radio I was looking for. The Grace WiFi radio has all of the standard alarm features plus WORLD WIDE streaming radio for free. Not since I was a boy with my shortwave radio, have I experienced the thrill of exploring distant broadcasts. A huge plus is the seamless integration with Pandora- a unique music programming site [...].
I read reviews of other radios and initially wanted the Sangean for about $100 more but I am glad I chose the Grace because of the integration with Pandora. The unit is easy to use, especially in conjunction with the reciva site [...] and Pandora. I LIKE the fact that the controls are simple. You can also connect the unit with your full size stereo for better sound quality. Did I mention that it can stream music from your PCs?
This is my COOL TECHNOLOGY PURCHASE for the year.
P.S. The only negative- a major annoyance is the stickers that are pasted all over the radio when you get it out of the box. They are completely unnecessary and put on with nasty glue and are difficult to remove without scratching the radio. Pay attention Grace Radio- product manager, this sticker problem is a real pain!
Customer Review: Happy with purchase Summary: 4 Stars
When I initially received my Grace Radio, it worked for 10 min. and then died. Nothing I could do would make it start again. I returned it to Amazon, which was a very easy experience. They paid return UPS postage, and I printed out a label to affix to the box from them. They immediately mailed my replacement before receiving the defective one. The new one works fine. No yucky stickers were on my radio. I had difficulty accessing my downloaded music from the computer on the Grace radio. It took me awhile to figure out, but my problem was I was running Norton 360 all-in-one security software, and under "my network" Norton had made the Grace's default security "default protected". Once I changed the trust level to "full trust", both Windows Media Player and Realplayer files were read by the Grace. I cannot use the Grace in my bedroom as it will not pick up my internet signal at that distance. I'm using a Linksys WRT 160N Ultra Range Plus router. When I tell people about the Grace radio, they always say they didn't know such a thing was available, and are kind of interested in it. Since we use this all the time, I'm thinking of getting the extended warranty just in case. I'm happy with my purchase.
Customer Review: Good Product Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned this radio for about 5 months now, and am very pleased with it. It take a little getting used to, and it took a while to find what the range was, but with a firmware update and enhanced DSL (7.5Mbps), it is working flawlessly.
For those who complain about the range, it is probably a problem with your router or bandwidth rather than with the radio.
For those who complain about the clicking noise, I agree that it pretty muich eliminates this as bed-side radio, but since it has no alarm, it doesn't make sense to have it there anyway. The time I found the noise most annaying is when the radio is turned off, but now I have the radio on a power switch which allows me to kill power to it when not in use. It works fine, because the radio automatically resets to the correct time once you turn it on again. I take off one star for this strange noise--what could be causing it?
I also use it to stream Pandora stations--it works very well and eliminates the ads.
I used to be a shortwave radio user, but now with all the stations that have discontinued their shortwave broadcasts, this radio is definitely the way to go
Customer Review: No Grace Here Summary: 1 Stars
I'm surprised anyone got this radio to work right. But since some people are happy with it, I suppose it does work under certain circumstances. I, however, found this to be the most miserable piece of electronics I have ever purchased in my entire life. First, it doesn't work with WPA. Yes, I know the package says it does, but check the user forum at Grace (for which you are required to register) and you'll see that many people have to disable WPA to get this thing working. Next, this radio is slow as a turtle. Updating the station list takes much longer than it should, and I was reminded of the days of dial-up as I sat there twiddling my thumbs. When it finally does connect to a station, it plays one song then takes a while to play another one. Or else the station has to buffer. Long periods of silence weren't exactly what I wanted when I purchased a $150 radio. The user guide is horrible -- it took me thirty minutes how to locate the serial number in order to set up Pandora. Oh, and then I found that this radio interfered with my internet connection. You might try and see if it works for you, but I took it back to Best Buy and got my money back.
