Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of GlobalSat BU-353 Waterproof USB GPS Receiver

Customer Review: Works on Mac (with VN Ware) and DeLorme Topo 8.0
Summary: 5 Stars

I installed DeLorem Topo 8.0 on a Mac that was running Windows XP on a VMware Fusion virtual machine, and connected the GPS receiver. Everything works well.

Special thanks to Amazon for rectifying a problem. The first time I ordered the GlobalSat BU-353 GPS receiver, it went to the wrong address and got lost by the post office. Amazon quickly refunded my money, even though I don't think the error was their fault.

Customer Review: Works well could use a long lead wire
Summary: 4 Stars

The Globalat BU-53 GPS receiver has increased the number of satelite I receive on my Street and Trips program from the orignal MicroSoft receiver. The MicroSoft would pickup 3-4, the GloblSat picks up 7-11, it has reduced the loss of signal and the number of times the program drops. The only problem i the connection wire is a little short, if it was a foot or so longer it would allow for a greater range of mounting locations.

Customer Review: Great Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using my BU-353 with ms Streets and Trips for a month or so and I have to say it has worked flawlessly. It locks on quickly and accurately and does exactly what it's supposed to. I attach it to my dash with a bit of velcro and I'm off. In my job I make between 15 and 20 stops a day and every day is a different route. This has made everything so much easier. If it was lost or stolen, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Customer Review: The GPS for wardriving
Summary: 5 Stars

Use this GPS with a laptop/notebook and some freeware like netstumbler or others to log Wifi nodes.
Upload to GPSvisiualizer type site to map them. My 2006 survey of the local neighborhood found a few dozen.
A recent one (1/31/2011) had 250 in the same area. With a parabolic antenna attached to an external USB
b/g Wifi adapter I can log 79 from my backyard! Oh, the GPS isn't necessary for that experiment.

Customer Review: Globalsat BU-353 Very Fast
Summary: 5 Stars

I replaced my Deluo GPS with the Globalsat and have been very impressed at how fast it acquired the satellites. I use it with Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 and it works great. I would highly recommend the device.

The only downside is DO NOT BOOT-UP a Dell Notebook with the Globalsat GPS USB plugged in or Windows could crash. I find it better to unplug the USB connection when I power down the notebook pc.
