The HL 340 "USB to Serial DB9 (RS232) Adapter Cable (Garmin compatible) with Windows ..." worked for me and my Garmin eTrex Vista GPS unit on a desktop computer running Windows XP Professional and on my laptop running Windows Vista Enterprise Service Pack 2 (32-bit). For the desktop/XP installation, I used the mini disc that came with it, and chose USBSER34.INF when the installer looked for the driver. *After I rebooted*, it worked with the GPS and the DNRGarmin program.
The minidisc that comes with the cable wouldn't go in my laptop (Vista [Enterprise32-bit]), so I copied its contents onto a USB drive and then pointed the installer there (to the whole directory -- don't look for a certain file). It found the driver and it works with the GPS and the DNR Garmin program.
** On both computers I had to change the port for the GPS within the DNRGarmin program before it would recognize the GPS unit. The USB choice didn't work on either, so I assume it sets up a virtual Comm port (Port 2 on my desktop and Port 8 on my laptop), but I don't know much about computers.
