Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Genius MousePen 8 x 6-Inch Graphic Tablet for Home and OfficeCustomer Review: Bang for the Buck ! Summary: 5 Stars
I received the Genius 6 x 8 tablet for Christmas ( which I begged my wife for lol ) I have a lot of inking projects that I'm committed to and also for my art in general . I have previously owned a lower-end Wacom tablet and right now I own a PC with 256mb of RAM!( which I dearly ,dearly thank the LORD for ) Now that being said here's the skinny :
Physically the plastic doesn't feel as thick as the Wacom graphite or as I imagine the bamboo (but its still very good ) but nice and large working space . The included software also allows you to customize the size of your working area within the 6 x 8 of the pad . On the tablet you have 29 "hot cells" which have preset shortcuts or you can customize them to your liking ( cool beans ! )
Now how it actually works :
It does some getting used to but I was very pleasantly surprised how well it works for the price!I haven't used a tablet for many years but after a few days of constant use I started to get the hang of the pen and how I should hold it . I used it in Photoshop CS 3 and Paint Shop Pro X2 and I found for what ever reason whether it was my skill or the lack thereof with the pen ( lol ) that the pen worked better in PS right of the bat than in PSP X2 . But after a few days whether I was getting the hang of it or what , I found the lines improved in PSP X2 . Now for those that are like myself , advanced in using pen and ink but beginners in tablet use I also suggest getting Manga Pro debut or EX and here's why : the Manga studio programs self corrects your lines if their shaky ! Go on to YouTube and check out for yourself the video tutorials owners have posted .
I really really am happy with the tablet and recommend it to anyone above the Wacom "inexpensive " tablets . As an artist on a budget you really can't wrong .
Peace
Customer Review: Buyers Beware Summary: 1 Stars
I just recently purchased this item after debating over the idea of buying the Bamboo (Small) Pen Tablet with Pen Only versus this product. I decided to purchase this product because 1) it provided a larger surface to use, and 2) it was more "inexpensive" than others it's size. Although, I was vary of the 13% that had their systems crash or receive an unusable product. When this item arrived, it was badly packaged. The mouse and pen were not in the correct areas of the box and the installation cd was out of it's sleeve. It wasn't a big deal to me, so I took the tablet out of it's protective "foam sheet" covering and proceeded to install it. The installation manual wasn't as detailed as I would have liked it to be, but it was sufficient. However, when I attempted to install the software (my operating systen is Windows XP) a screen popped up to tell me that this product was not Windows certified and could disable or crash my system if I proceeded to install it. Upon remembering the other reviews of unsatisfied customers, one happened to have had the same situation; I chose not to proceed with the installation. I unplugged the tablet and packaged the product neater and more properly than I had received it, and I plan to ship it back today. While the product was not properly installed, and is planned for return, the tablet was still usuable. Usuable in the sense that you could only use the pen. However the pointer lagged and jumped around the screen, only moving when I hovered over a specific area and clicked the left button. When I went to change the sensitivity settings, the highest setting caused it to be too sensitive and any other setting wasn't sensitive enough. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Customer Review: Mac users, beware Summary: 1 Stars
Notice that the good reviews come from windows users.
I got this as a birthday present. Unfortunately, even though the product claims to support Mac OSX, it really doesn't. Here is my list of problems:
* The CD included is ANCIENT. Forget the free software, the CD does not contain the mac versions.
* Even the most recent drivers from their website are bad. They mess up some permissions and upon installation and reboot, you need another reboot to fix them.
* It is NOT compatible with INK. That means, forget the handwriting recognition, unless you have some other program of your own.
* The pen works as a mouse (after the painful driver installation), but the pressure sensitivity feature does not work in photoshop. This is quite possibly due to the inability to install elements and the other software from the CD, since they don't have the MAC versions.
* Also it frequently causes photoshop to hang for possibly ~30sec at a time. You do a couple of brushstrokes and then the program just freezes for what seems FOREVER.
* If you decide to unplug the tablet from your computer, something that you NEED to do all the time if you have a laptop, it will only work again upon plugin 1 in 30 times. The rest of the times, the only solution was to RE-install the drivers and reboot twice (because of the permissions problem).
I just got today a bamboo fun from wacom, and it works SO seamlessly. It was more expensive, but I'm sure that the simple bamboo (the non-"fun" version), works equally well, it's just less fancy looking, and it seems to cost more or less the same as this product.
I'm returning the genius. I really consider the mac compatibility false advertisement.
Customer Review: Good Tablet for beginners Summary: 4 Stars
I'd been entertaining the idea of buying a tablet for at least a year. After all, I was coloring my work with mismatched color pencils dating back to when I was in elementary school, and I can't afford the pricey prisma colored markers/pencils and certainly not copic markers.
I always thought tablets would be super expensive, but I broke down and started looking for a tablet here. I found this tablet pretty quickly but I was skeptical that a fifty dollar tablet would work well, especially since it's not a Wacom. However, I figured 50 dollars wouldn't be too big a loss and went for the plunge after reading the other reviews here and on other sites.
I received my tablet quickly and went about following the instructions to install it. After some trial and error, I got the tablet working and it works surprisingly well. Once everything's installed properly it's pretty simple, it just takes some getting used to drawing on a tablet and looking at the screen.
I won't say this tablet's perfect. My installation didn't work like the instruction book said it would, I had some glitches I had to work out. And then the instructions said nothing about having to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable from the computer. On the first day my tablet kept giving me this blue line and making sounds but that disappeared by the following day. That and I have to start up Photoshop *with* the tablet in order for photoshop to recognize that it's working with a pressure-sensative pen, but that's not a big deal at all.
Anyway, it's got a few things that aren't great, but it worked out great for me in the end. I think it's a pretty good little tablet to start out with. I'd never have found a Wacom this cheap.
Customer Review: If you are having second doubts, read this Summary: 4 Stars
When I saw this product, I had no idea that Wacom was a leading brand. Also, I have never seen Wacom before. I just read the reviews about how cheap this product is and how much people like it.
I purchased it within 30 minutes of encountering it and then few days later when I saw the updated reviews, I began to have second doubts. I was worried that people working in the company might have put up fake good reviews. Also I saw that some people put up very negative reviews after i bought the tablet
Well, after using this tablet for about a month (maybe 5 hours per week) I gotta say I made a great choice.
I don't know when it's going to break but so far it's good
The only problem that I have encountered is that I have to press down very hard to get thick lines. For example, on photoshop, I choose size 100px brush, but when I draw on the tablet, no matter what pixel brush i choose, the lines come out the same (thickness). maybe i'm using it wrong but if anyone knows how to change it, please tell me.
Anyways, people complain that the tip of the pen is not sturdy. I don't think it's a problem because when you draw, it's better that it's flowy since the tablet itself is hard.
I got a small hand so i dont see a problem with the mouse
Lastly, if you are not a computer person, you might have a slight trouble with your tablet while installing it. OH, and just hope that you don't get a messed up tablet like some users say (they claim that theirs' won't work after 3 days)
if you have any questions regarding how well my tablet is running, don't hesitate to ask!
ps: make sure you read returning policy before purchasing just in case your tablet is damaged.
