Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Rapid Travel Charger for iPodCustomer Review: good price... poor quality Summary: 2 Stars
When I received this item I first noted that the main charger port had a large sticker on it which said "for ipod shuffle" since I have a nano I was a little worried. The usb cable which plugs into the main charger port was labeled "for ipod mini." So, I plugged it in... and it didn't work. I tried several different things such as plugging in other usb devices I own through the main port to see if the problem was there or in the cable; both seemed to work independantly but not together. After toying with it for some time I figured it just didn't work, however, with optimism I continued to try it on outlets that were in a different room. Fortunately I met some success after trying several plugs and jiggling the cable a little. I now know which plugs in my home work and which don't... but I admit it makes me nervous taking it on the road because I never really know. I should also note that the plugs which did NOT work for my charger DID work for other electrical devices. In other words it was not my home wiring which caused the problems. I gave it two stars because it does work; just with a bit of hassle for me. I won't say that I whole-heartedly recommend this product but it certainly is better than spending thirty plus bucks on something as basic as a home charger. If you want to take a $25.00 savings gamble then go for it, I did with marginal success and probably wouldn't change my decision, but, if you would rather have peace of mind, then it might be better to cough up the thirty.
Customer Review: My iPod is charged. (BUT NOT RIGHT) Summary: 3 Stars
This thing charges my iPod. For a dollar. No complaints. (Wait, nevermind. See edits.)
Wait, I do have one. When listening to the iPod while charging it with this device, there is a bit of background noise. I haven't actually ever listened to the iPod while on an Apple-brand charger, but I'd wager there would be less noise due to a better/better-shielded AC/DC converter.
EDIT: When charging my iPod touch using this charger, the backlight freaks out (flickers/dims/randomly dies), presumably due to poorly-conditioned power coming straight through the cheap converter. It might be time to pay more than a dollar for a charger.
EDIT AGAIN: This thing sucks. My iPod had completely discharged, and while plugged into this charger, all it would do is blink randomly and die, and generally act very broken. Once plugged into a proper charger, it gave me the correct little "low battery warning" icon, and charged quickly up to capacity. Definitely time to buy a charger that actually converts AC to DC correctly, and with some conditioning.
Customer Review: Great for traveling or when not using the computer Summary: 5 Stars
The Ipod Home/Travel Charger works very well with my 5G Video iPod. Planning to travel to Europe soon, and I'm glad that I can bring my iPod along without lugging a laptop (now all I need to do is buy an adapter since this item can take 100-250V/50-60 Hz. ^^). The cord is quite long, but you never know when a longer cord might come in handy. Overall a great product and good money-saver (compared to the price of what Apple is selling).
Update: I've been testing the charger for several days now, and though it does work, it takes quite a long time to fully charge the iPod 100%. Using the usb cable to charge through computer would definitely be much faster, however for only 5 bucks, this charger is still good for traveling.
Update2: I contacted the seller about how it takes a really long time to charge, and they sent an email back the next day stating that they will ship out to me the "next better model" the same day I received a reply from them. If you buy this item, buy it from tenturtles! Xcellent service!
Customer Review: Very Disappointing Doesn't Work - Don't Buy It. Summary: 1 Stars
BargainCell Rapid Travel Charger for iPod
These were cheap (90c) and although there were some mixed reviews I decided to buy three - for me and my children. One was dead on arrival (DOA). When either of the others were plugged into my iPod Touch it started doing strange things - turned on even if powered down and I couldn't turn it off even with the hard on/off button, the touch control didn't work and the screen display randomly zoomed in and out and sideways. The chargers also created loud interference with radios in our house. I'm concerned that if I continue to use them they may damage my iPod. With shipping and handling they actually cost $11.64 for three, but it would have been easier, less hassle and safer to just take my money and throw it in the bin.
Customer Review: A Must For IPod Users Summary: 5 Stars
I've bought two of these, and the price is so great I may buy more. I was using the 30 gig ipod video unit and upgraded to the 160 unit. Which have nice battery life at first but the more you use them the faster the battery dies. Was looking for something to charge other than through my computer or car and found these. I bought two. Use one at work to listen the ipod and have it stay fully charged all day, and one in my suite case for travel and to also have around the house.
I have since lost the work one but am looking for it. Though these are so cheap and work so great that may buy one or two more. They come in very handy, especially if you aren't around a computer, or near a high priced device that plays the ipod and charges it.
